It seems that we have new arrivals here once more! Welcome, everyone. I'm Ethlyn.

Since many of us have martial skills, the locals often hire us to hunt dangerous beasts outside of town, and in March we had to go on a lengthy expedition through the forest... suffice it to say, as peaceful as Aldrip itself is, there are dangers around it if you aren't careful. And while I'm sure that appeals to an adventurous spirit in some of you, I'm going to advise you all to be cautious and prepare well if you make an expedition outside of town.

Which brings me to the Arztenritter. Think of us as a band of knights--except instead of bringing a sword or a lance, we bring first aid. Right now, the Arztenritter is me, Marianne, Rinoa, Młynar, Noel, and Astralin. If you find yourself in a pickle, call one of us and we'll ride out to help!

And, if you have any interest in healing and horseback riding, tell me! I'm always happy to add more people to our ranks.

I know how to heal, so I can be of assistance with that. But it's been...a long time since I've been horseback riding.

Do you have like an infirmary or apothecary for the wounded and sick?

Wonderful! And don't worry about being rusty... I've been giving lessons, and one more person isn't a problem.

There are a few places to find medical help here, but the one we're based out of is the Willow Clinic--it's closer to the edge of town, near most of the farms and fields.

I'm a nurse back in my own world and do healings often, but I'd be interested to know on our differences in types of healing anyway.

[because it's probably way different -- hell, there's even different ways to heal back at home.]

I could always help at the clinic, if you don't mind. I'm also good at herbs and medicines, so I can help if anyone gets sick.

I think I can speak for them when I say they'd be happy for another member of staff. Especially one who's versed in herblore!

What is healing in your world like, may I ask?

[well, that's a relief. she'll actually be able to be useful here. and since magic is more accepted in this world than it is on the Earth she knows, she wouldn't have to hide that aspect of herself.]

It depends on where you're from. My kind of healing abilities draw on the life from the ground around me. Unfortunately, depending on the extent of the damage to another person, it may kill some nearby plants, but not always. Sometimes they're more resilient than they look.

My healing is limited to those who share my element. For example, if one possesses a fire-based nature, I will likely be unable to help them.

{But if they are water-based, he can do a lot of good.}

Excellent! If you can ride, then any other difficulty is minimal.

How do you tell if someone is attuned to an element? Is it a trait everyone has, or is it limited to mages?

Everyone should be attuned to one element or another. I will be able to tell once I am in their presence. {Or so the Eastern Zodiac dictates.}

So it's something universal--I wonder what element I'm attuned to?

Regardless, even if your healing abilities don't work on a person, would you still have enough knowledge of anatomy and medicine to do your first aid by hand?

What do you know about the sea and its coast, out west of Aldrip? Any lengthy expeditions out in that direction?

Hello, Blackbeard. [It certainly strikes her as an unusual name--more of a description, really.] I don't think anyone's made any nautical expeditions yet, although if you were to ask I'm sure you would find interested people. I have heard there are islands out in the western seas, but that it's quite a dangerous voyage, with treacherous currents and sea serpents and whatnot.

Are you a man of the sea, then?

That's me. Can't remember a time when I wasn't at home on a ship. And never met a sea that wasn't treacherous, full of dangerous creatures riding the waves.

[ It's him. He's the danger. ]

You find anyone else looking to take their chances at sea rather than riding horseback through a forest, you send them my way, hm?

I'll be sure to do so. And if you find an expedition, be sure to take one of us along. I've heard that the sea is where worse things happen.

Were you a merchantman in your previous life, or a man of the navy?

Pirate. 'Least I was a pirate before coming to this place. Hard to plunder the open seas without a ship and crew, y'see.

How very charitable of you. And what if the call for help does require a martial hand?

In that case, I have a sword. And the rest of us have some martial skill or other that we can bring to bear. [That wasn't intentional, and it isn't required either, but it is useful.] Why the incredulous tone, if I might ask?

Oh no, I was simply wondering if you were prepared to meet the inevitable dangers of answering calls for help in the wild. After all, 'twould be a shame if the helpers were to, in turn, require rescue of their own.

Oh, I see! No, in my homeland I was a battlefield healer, so I'm used to having to fight through the people who caused the injuries in the first place. We aren't actually at war here, so I'm hoping that won't be so necessary--but if it is, then we'll be ready to make it through.

I see. And your comrades are likewise prepared?

[ These people could be useful, he thinks. One way or another. ]

Please! I'm not experienced with anything like that, and I'm afraid that I might get injured out in the wilderness some time. It would be hard to reach a hospital.

Given some of the creatures that live around town, I think that's a very reasonable concern. And when you know how to do it, you'll be able to help others if they get into trouble themselves!

Is it difficult to learn? I didn't even learn first aid in school.
