It seems that we have new arrivals here once more! Welcome, everyone. I'm Ethlyn.

Since many of us have martial skills, the locals often hire us to hunt dangerous beasts outside of town, and in March we had to go on a lengthy expedition through the forest... suffice it to say, as peaceful as Aldrip itself is, there are dangers around it if you aren't careful. And while I'm sure that appeals to an adventurous spirit in some of you, I'm going to advise you all to be cautious and prepare well if you make an expedition outside of town.

Which brings me to the Arztenritter. Think of us as a band of knights--except instead of bringing a sword or a lance, we bring first aid. Right now, the Arztenritter is me, Marianne, Rinoa, Młynar, Noel, and Astralin. If you find yourself in a pickle, call one of us and we'll ride out to help!

And, if you have any interest in healing and horseback riding, tell me! I'm always happy to add more people to our ranks.

We haven't been put to the test quite yet, but I'm confident that we are. We'll be able to get people out of trouble and to a safe place, I'm sure.

You say you all ride horses - I require the loan of one to venture beyond what is currently described in the natives' maps. A weapon would not go amiss either: the coin to have one forged to my specifications.

Give me those and I will assist your little group.

Horse ownership is somewhat beyond my means. [She sounds a little amused.] But if you join the Arztenritter, you'll have a standing loan of a horse.

What sort of weapon are you looking for?

A gunblade. Or failing that, a greatsword.

[ He doesn't expect her to agree outright to his request of course. That's what negotiations are for. ]

Could you explain what a gunblade is? That's not a type of weapon I'm familiar with.

[Definitely not a "yes absolutely" but she's curious, first.]

The name speaks for itself. 'Tis a gun and sword combined. The handle is curved like that of a firearm and there is a barrel built into the hilt which can fire ammunition.

[Well, she's become slightly familiar with firearms here, and she's been intimately familiar with swords her entire life, and from what she knows of both... that doesn't sound like a good idea.]

And is it safe, this weapon? I mean, safe for the wielder--combining sharp steel and saltpeter sounds quite risky to me.

[ He chuckles. ]

Oh, the prototypes were disastrous. It took some time to incorporate both aspects seamlessly, but I assure you that it is now quite safe. As safe as any firearm can be, that is.

[ There's nothing stopping someone from pointing it the wrong way after all. ]

Hence why I would need to be present to advise whoever forges this weapon. I can create the moulds easily enough but I am no blacksmith.

Yes, I can well imagine... the first casualties of those weapons. [She's a swordswoman by birth and training, and she understands the need for innovation in weapons of war, but it's still sad.] Well, I'm sure one of the smiths in town would be willing to undertake the challenge... as long as you advise them well.

Do you have a job in town yet?

I do not. Which is also why I lack the coin to commission the weapon myself.

...Ah, lest you worry, I won't suddenly retract my help or abandon your little group once the weapon is made. In fact, I would be in an even better position to assist you once I have it.

What if I got you a job at Willow Clinic? It's where I work, and I've got a good relationship with the person who runs it. I think we could arrange an advance on your wages so you could commission this weapon of yours.

A clinic, hmm? I suppose that will do. But I suppose I should warn you that I'm not known for my excellent bedside manner.

The lady who runs the clinic will want to interview you to make sure your skills are legitimate, but I'll put in a good word. That should be enough.
