Good morning, everyone. My name is Altius, and I'm happy to announce the Aldrip branch of SolMed has been established. We're a medical technology company that covers a broad range of products and services, but we'd like to work towards whatever might be needed here most. I know a number of Chosen have specialty prostheses or other assistive devices that may need maintenance, for instance, and we're always glad to work with doctors and other providers to provide new tools or equipment for their practice.
I've only been here a short time, of course, so please let me know what sort of things would best help you.
Although I'm satisfied enough with the current staff to make this announcement, we'd also welcome anyone interested in joining the company, whether it be in delivery, manufacturing, record keeping, or research and development. I'm sure we could find a spot for you, whatever your skills.
Similarly, given the smaller scale here, I'm free to offer our engineering and chemistry labs for rent, with some caveats. They're state of the art in terms of my world, where devices like these tablets are common, and while they lack any magical aspect, I'd be interested to see how we could improve them.
[phew! He takes a breath. CEO announcement over, now he can turn to less official comments:]
... when I'd heard of buildings from our worlds appearing, I admit I didn't expect my company, of all things. I can promise I've ensured everything is working as smoothly as possible.
[His tone turns serious again, though more on the somber end:]
Ah, but there's something else I wanted to discuss. Though I wasn't sure if the locals would notice what happened last month, it seems their awareness is worse than I expected, given the state of the city. Would anyone be interested in helping to organize cleanup and rebuilding?

Fascinating, I must say.
Do tell me more?

We're typically working on a number of projects internationally, and even scaled down to what we have here, there is time and space left unused. It seemed apt to offer, especially given I know there is some demand.
SolMed has been a developer of significant advances in areas like scanning technology and the pharmaceuticals required for their use for several decades, and we have the facilities to match. I admit it's difficult to define the level of advancement when I don't know what sort you're familiar with. I don't imagine 2014 Earth means anything to you?

[A thoughtful hum.]
No, nary a thing! 'Tis a name I've heard, however. It would seem the AI is rather fond of pulling people from this "Earth".

[He stops himself from thinking further about different universes, lest he start fantasizing about testing Chaos's reach across dimensions. Business, business.]
In any case, what I can offer you for certain is a tour, if you're interested in the details. I can do my best to answer any specific questions in the meanwhile, but I'm no researcher myself.
no subject
You may not be a researcher but I am. One with his own laboratory and many years of...mmm... experience in the field of medicine.
I believe we could live in mutualistic symbiosis, you and I.
[Do not trust this man.]
no subject
Anyway, he's pretending he knows nothing. He hums in thought.]
Symbiosis. That's an interesting way to put it. Feel free to come by any time, and I'll be here to show you around; I'd love to hear the details of your [pause.] experience.
[ARF isn't doing it for you, Dan? He'll send the address for the SolMed building, in the western commercial district. It's got a view of the docks! :)]

[Someone else has always been responsible for spinning his art into money. Usually, he found patrons.
In his ideal circumstances, he wouldn't need money. He's an immortal being with no need to eat or sleep... Unfortunately he's an immortal being living in a society. Coin opens up opportunities, bends ears, and keeps plans moving along....]
Consider me an eager student.
I shall visit your SolMed soon.

How much rent will you be charging for lab use
?

[Look how generous and open-minded he is. :) And look, if he was a ghost and didn't require funds to live, he probably wouldn't have money, either. Except for use in terms of gaining power. Anyway,]
I'm curious whether the view is to your liking, so you'll have to visit and tell me.
no subject
Fortunate
You must be feeling charitable
[So generous :) Take pity on a poor ghost :) Give him free lab access :)]
Do I need to schedule an appointment
?

[Octavian, don't you know there's no such thing as a free lunch? Altius will get something out of it.]
Not at all. Feel free to come by whenever suits you, and I'll be here as long as I'm given half an hour advance notice.
[And he'll send the location: a spot in the western commercial district, far enough from the docks to avoid the criminal element but close enough to see the water a few stories up.]
no subject
[He will take as many free lunches as he can get away with, thanks pal—]
I could make time today
Perhaps in an hour or two
[Giving notice in a vague way is still giving notice, please expect him At Some Point.]
no subject
I'll look forward to your visit. Give the secretary in front your name and she'll direct you to the right floor.
[Then Octavian can feel like he's getting a little extra time alone to inspect the labs without feeling like Altius is hovering over his shoulder, if he likes. That's what the cameras are for, anyway!]

Do you make x-rays? I've wanted to have one ever since I learned about them.
Apart from that, an adjustable bed or chair would be very helpful for practical purposes.
no subject
We do, yes. Do you know what sort would work best for your practice? The more efficient model is a larger machine that would need a small dedicated room with lead-lined walls. But there is a smaller, portable model if you don't have the space or often deal with patients who can't be moved.
As for beds, it may take a short while to set up the process, but that should be no issue.
[Several of their machine designs have adjustable surfaces they're anchored onto... Add a proper mattress, remove all the scanning tech. Should be easy.]
no subject
I'll have to say the smaller one. We only have a limited number of rooms, and there's been more than one [hmm] incident that filled all of them.
I know that it requires other equipment too--lead aprons, special shielding for the device. Would you be able to provide that as well?
no subject
Alright. We can provide all the related equipment, yes. I'll be able to give you a specific time estimate in a few days, but I don't expect it will take any longer than a month or so to make sure everything is how it needs to be.
[Working on the smaller scale is kind of weird these days! But it lets him control the details more, so he can't say he dislikes it.]
As upsetting as it is to hear of multiple "incidents", I suppose I'm glad to contribute to any recovery. Was your practice affected by the most recent one?

What exactly is it that your company does?
[ is he interested in at least touring the lab? yes, for comparison's sake. engineering and chemistry both speak to him, after all... ]
no subject
We research, develop, and manufacture technology used in healthcare, with a focus in imaging to assist with diagnosis and surgery. We have a number of other subspecialties such as anesthesia, disinfectants, equipment for emergency care and home care... That's only scratching the surface, but the building didn't come with the pamphlets I like to hand out, unfortunately.
no subject
I see. Well, unless your building came with all your employees who do the actual work, I fail to see how you will be able to offer much, if any of the same things here.
no subject
Granted, I have yet to find anyone with the level of scientific expertise our R&D typically boasts, in terms of future improvements. But the tools and related training materials to produce what the company has already created are thankfully present.
no subject
[ said with a kind of hum, almost derisive — well, he's going to keep his eye on this post then, to see if there are those who volunteer. might as well see who the scientifically inclined people in aldrip are.
(would he be able to do something about, hm, any of it? probably. is he inclined to? not really, not yet anyway. eventually, if it's something that's going to help people, he might reconsider.) ]
So your staff will be using those tools and materials, then? Who is your staff?
no subject
[What is this man after, he wonders? Altius's tone remains light, though with a hint of that curiosity.]
I would love nothing more than to hire or collaborate with any Chosen willing to offer their services, of course. We are all in this together, after all.
