[This guy definitely doesn't deserve his ire, but Scott still feels petty and upset enough that he actually feels some satisfaction that the text is mirroring his anger.]

Recently? I can't even imagine what that must be like. I'm sorry. It's possible someone here might be able to help. From what I understand, lots of people need help learning how to control the powers they have.

[.....Scott understood like 90% of that sentence, but the 10% he didn't understand has made him just squint at his charm. Okay, what??? The confusion helps to further defuse the anger, but without it, he just feels dumb and lonely. Scott finds himself closing his eyes, before pulling his legs up to his chest.

[It's hard to guess at tone when this guy is just texting back, but Alphen figures he should at least try to be friendly. Maybe he just wants to know he's not alone.]

[Scott guesses that's true. He's still new to this whole mutant thing, but him and the other students are at Xavier's for a reason, learning to control their powers. It just feels like a nearly impossible task, since his power is the only that doesn't turn off.

Well, excluding like, physical changes with Kurt or something, but that's different. He can control his teleportation at least.]

I'm Scott. [He almost feels like he should apologize to Alphen, because he's been nothing but nice even as he gave him a bunch of attitude. But apologizing is hard!!]

[For his part, if he's bothered by the way Scott has been talking, it doesn't show from the tone of his voice. There is a note of sympathy there, too, but he tries to tone that way down. He can't imagine anyone wants to feel like they're being pitied.]

I can't blame you for being frustrated, though. Ending up here is already a lot...especially if you were already trying to get used to a big change. So don't worry about it, alright? No hard feelings.

[Jesus, he's so nice, he's still being nice to him. He's almost reminded of one of the professors at Xavier's School, always patient with him despite his anger. Well, mostly McCoy and the founder himself, but they signed up to deal with grumpy teenagers. That's what a mutant school is for, duh.]

Ugh, I'd feel better if you told me that I was being an asshole. What is your crime anyway? Being too nice?

[Perhaps a question that's a bit too personal, but Scott's just going for it. Or maybe he doesn't have one, who knows.]

[He hasn't even felt an urge to punch yet! Besides, he's used to dealing with people like Shionne -- standoffish and prickly at the best of times. He can certainly deal with some petulant teen angst.]

[Guess it's nice to know that he's not on this guy's Shit List yet (and that there are bigger assholes than him). It's not like he wants to be on it, unless he really hates the other guy. Purposely being on that list? Good. Accidentally? Less fun.]

[Normally Scott wouldn't even consider his question to be even remotely honest, but Alphen is so earnest and everything, he has to double check.]

Scott's face break into a large smile and nope, there's no way he can't stop the small chortles from leaving him. Luckily, the charm doesn't translate that.]

[Well, never heard of getting arrested for being too nice, but Scott's too busy laughing to really clarify what he means.]

[That would certainly be something, but Scott calms himself down, though there's a smile to him still.]

Sure, Alphen. Why'd they bring you here anyway?

[Hard to imagine this guy doing anything 'criminal,' even though Scott's only known him for a few minutes by now.]

[He knows that kind of sure. But he's more than ready to let it go, especially given the question. He hesitates for a second, not because he feels any guilt, but because there's just such a story involved. His voice is more serious when he responds, a mix of somber and determined.]

Insurrection. Treason. I can't say it's wrong, but...I can't say they're going to make me regret it, either.

[If being here is the price to pay for freeing Dahna, he'll pay it gladly. A moment, and then he adds, tone lightening a little:] What about you, Scott? What are they charging you with?

[Treason's a pretty high crime, but... Scott honestly can't see Alphen causing an insurrection without a good reason. Maybe he's making a judgment too soon, but he's quite sure that he wouldn't do something like that unless the government really sucks.]

Your government must be terrible if it got you to rebel. Well, did you succeed and overthrow them?

[That would be pretty neat... and better than him talking about his crime. Scott feels himself clamping up slightly, but he figures that he owes Alphen an answer. With a slight sigh, he pushes forward.]

And I'm here for destruction of property. It's not noble or anything.
