Creatures tend to evolve according to their environment. Warmer climates or a higher risk of parasites are some reasons just about any species will begin to display less hair over time.

Humans in particular are often a clothed species, many have environmental control such as spending time in buildings and having warm homes for shelter. Perhaps in those timelines it is actually the most logical evolutionary choice.
