Afternoon everyone. This is Goro Akechi speaking.
We have come to find ourselves from a quite troubling situation. All thanks to acts of those from Rumpitur. I have heard the talk around the town about what should we do with them. Some of the people of Aldrip seem to be advocating for revenge, while others forgiveness.
Normally, I think the wisest choice of action would be leave the situation behind us and not to get involved in the politics of this world. But this is different. This wasn't a random attack or act of a beast, but carefully planned and intentional action against us. If we hadn't been successful in our rescue mission our numbers would have depleted no doubt. Who knows, the kidnappings could still be ongoing.
[He doesn't really care much for most of you. But this time they had hit where it hurt.]
What do you think, my fellow Chosen? Stay still and leave them be, potentially risking another attack. Or retaliate? Although, I believe it is important to remember that we still don't have all the details. Making this whole ordeal seem just more suspicious.
As for what I think? I believe something needs to pay for this.

I would say leave them to the sea monster, but I worry that it will start trying to prey on us once it's consumed all of Rumpitur.
no subject
yes. while I agree leaving them to their own devices could be an option we can't just ignore the creature. it might as well turn its eyes to us after failure with Rumpitur.

What is your takeaway from this? It sounds like you just want something to be done about the monster, but is that really enough? It would be like rewarding these people for what they have done, taking care of their problem.

[Endangering their friends, with a couple not making it. Scott swallows past the lump in his throat just thinking about it, but he continues typing.]
Maybe those directly involved should be held accountable? The guy that was in charge of this plan and the kidnappers.
no subject
that would be preferable, yes. however, do we know just who are in the charge of the operation? and which measures should we take to investigate it.

The best way to make sure it doesn't happen again is to try to get rid of the monster I think.

But yes. I agree with you. The monster needs to be dealt with, no matter what we decide to do with Rumpitur.

If it is so important to have a pound of flesh, demand compensation from those responsible. Capital punishment shouldn't be our first recourse. Or perhaps we should ask the Aldrip Council for their sentencing guide?
My two cents:
1. Kill the creature
2. Require compensation
no subject
I do agree on these points. the monster ought to be our priority. but we still have only so much information about the origins of it, and the people in Rumpitur are not feeling too chatty. either they truly don't know anything or they are protecting someone.
what would you consider to be sufficient compensation for this?

that would be preferable course of action, yes. though finding out its whereabouts and how to deal with it are still a mystery. there must be a reason why the people at Rumpitur aren't talking.

First, I think that their boats should be confiscated. They cannot be trusted not to do this again, and I don't think they should be given the opportunity to do so. Then, I think that their leaders should be taken for task for what they've done. The leaders can point out the masterminds of this whole thing if they want, but it's their job to keep their people in line. This is their failure.
Where I'm from, they would be executed. But I've never had much taste for that sort of thing. At the very least, they should pay reparations to those who were impacted. In labour, in resources, in livelihood, and they should step down from their positions. We should ask the citizens of Aldrip of their opinions too. They lost people as well. Politically speaking, we're a wildcard, and the people here are hesitant around us as it is. To act without consulting them, as we represent Aldrip whether we like it or not, would come back to bite us in the end.

[ .. granted, maybe she should have, given what she's seen from Claude.. But she didn't know the politics extended this far, really. His entire text reads like something you'd see a prime minister read out on TV. ]
I agree that there has to be some sort of retribution, and I also agree it shouldn't be death.
In that case, wouldn't it be best to find out what would hurt them to find out what adequate retribution would be in this case? Leaders stepping down never solves anything. They just get replaced with similarly shitty people.
[ Yes, Claude, she's actually asking you because she respects your opinion, okay. A rare favour only extended to a few. ]

PEOPLE DO BAD THINGS WHEN THEY ARE AFRAID \\\\٩(๑`^´๑)۶////
THERE'S MANY STORIES ABOUT SACRIFICES TO MONSTERS IN EARTH'S MYTHOLOGY LIKE THE MINOTAUR AND ITS MAZE. IT PROBABLY SOUNDED 'FAIR' TO THEM TO USE STRANGERS THEY DON'T KNOW SINCE IT MEANS THEY DON'T HAVE TO KILL THEIR OWN. (ू˃̣̣̣̣̣̣︿˂̣̣̣̣̣̣ ू)
I'M NOT SAYING THAT THEY SHOULDN'T BE HELD RESPONSIBLE, BUT MAYBE WE SHOULD ELIMINATE THE SOURCE OF THEIR TROUBLE FIRST!!! (ง ͠ ᵒ̌ Дᵒ̌ )▬▬ι═══════ﺤ

this is not real life, not a story.
but since you are fan of myths, I have another one. a Greek hero Perseus slayed the gorgon monster Medusa, who had power to turn anyone into stone with her gaze. he would, later, rescue a beautiful woman called Andromeda who was about to be sacrificed to gods by her parents, the king and queen of Ethiopia. you see, they had angered the god of sea, Poseidon with their vanity and arrogance. after saving the girl Perseus proceeded to turn the royal court into stones by using the gorgon head and married Andromeda. He would be celebrated and idolized as a great hero after wards.
were the king and queen not scared when having to face the wrath of gods? was it right for them to sacrifice their only daughter? if so, was Pereus acts justified? what is the moral of the story -- if there even is one.

Before we jump to any conclusions, I would like more information on the planning that actually went into the kidnapping. Intent is a tricky subject, but I think it important to consider, to a degree. I'd also like to know how they managed to take us without us having any memory of the actual attack.
In addition, I would ask this be considered: what are the feasible options we have for punishment, as prisoners ourselves? Detainment, certainly. Death or maiming... if one wanted to take it that far. What else?

[ Yes, she's throwing shade!! Not at Akechi - if anything, he's getting a compliment here - but shade all the same. Whatever, she's mad about this entire dumb situation. ]
Coddling these people will only make them think they can get away with stuff like this again, so I agree with you. We simply have to find out what will hurt them enough to fear messing with us again, and then do that.
no subject
good to see that there is at least one sane person around.
this isn't just about those in rumpitur. if we don't act we leave a message to other possible forces that we aren't aware yet that we can be toyed with as pleased. i'd rather act rather than wait and see what happens.

but as a similar point, you can't blame only the people.
there's a wholeass cthulu out there they were feeding in fear.
it's not right, it needs to be addressed.
but don't punish them solely for acting to protect themselves.

just because they were scared doesn't mean they get a free pass for this.

We cannot forget that monster, either; I believe it's only the matter of time until we cross paths with it again, and we should make sure we're prepared.
[ Don't mind her casually skipping the question about the Rumpiturians. ]
