My name is Mr. Knight. ( is it? of course not, but there's nothing to marc's demeanour that says otherwise; and for those familiar, his accent says 'chicago!' ) I'm a priest. ( certainly, by A Definition, and by that, we mean 'by marc spector's definition and no-one else's, except (maybe) an ancient egyptian moon god's'. )

At home, I ran a mission — the Midnight Mission — through which I protected my community and my people. Travellers of the night. ( a breath of a pause and he holds up a hand (gloved, white, because of course) and gestures vaguely at his surroundings. ) A change in circumstances doesn't change my duty. If there's anyone that requires help or assistance with, ( at night, because marc is Dedicated, ), no matter how strange or unusual, please don't hesitate to reach out.

at the first question, marc's brow furrows and the corners of his lips quirk upwards, just for a moment. ) Why not? ( punctuated by a pause, then— oh. ) It's not that kind of mission.

( as for the last question— ) It depends on what protection is needed. My speciality tends towards the physical.

( because that's the important thing here, obviously. )

[He has to ask for something. That’s just how it works. It’s actually more likely that people don’t ask and just take whatever they want, but if this guy really is a priest, then maybe he’s slightly more fair.

Maybe. Wen Kexing doesn’t trust anyone’s claim to a noble cause.]

There's never been a good priest that wants for material possessions.

( of course, it's not as simple as that. marc has plenty of material possessions — or had plenty. he's had plenty of money, and isn't exactly short, even now ("now" being relative, given everything). )

I have a debt to pay. ( pause. clarification— ) Atonement.

Atonement for what?

[ He's caught by that answer. It sounds strange to him. Not because he's never thought of wanting to make up for something, but because he isn't sure what atonement would mean in that context. It's definitely a weird priest thing. ]

You can't atone by paying money? Are you protecting people to fulfill good deeds?

I was a bad person who did bad things for money.

( is the simple, honest answer. it's uttered matter-of-factly, as if that's just what it is (and to marc, it is). )

Spending money, regardless of cause, doesn't make that go away. ( with a touch more vehemence. most of marc's fortune — originally, before steven had invested it in other places — had been blood money, made in africa, the middle east, and south america. spending it didn't make it any cleaner. didn't make him any cleaner. ) So yes, you could say that I am.

[ What a strange thing to hear. Plenty of people do bad things for money or less. Some do them for no reason at all, but this man, this Knight guy, he actually admits it?

Yeah, that definitely has to be a priest thing.

Wen Kexing considers Moon Knight very seriously, studying his projected image, before nodding. ]

So you just want to find people that need help. I guess that is a different kind of mission.

[ Yeah, he's still missing that detail, but he hasn't actually dealt with religions much. Monks and priests would probably sooner kill him than talk to him anywhere else. ]
