OKCINDR POST #4
Ever wanted to have CR with a character and wasn't sure how to get them to cross paths? Wanted a dating app so you can hook up with hot people? Wanted to just find friends because you're a lonely bastard?
With the update of the tablets and the apps, we now have a dating / friendship app called OKCINDR! Players can use it as they please for the two months that it's up -- just imagine that they're profiles to swipe right on and everything. The idea is to encourage CR that may be difficult to get with characters who may or may not be interested in events / posts / logs / other network posts.
So, on November 3rd, characters randomly look back at their tablets to see the following:
This month, if players reset their profile, they will have a list of questions to answer:
Players, of course, are able to ignore this message. However, if a character wouldn't fill it out but a player would like to participate... the profile mysteriously resets itself. There may even be responses sent from Character A to Character B without Character A actually doing anything, if you'd like! This is a completely opt-in scenario! But for players who would like to participate fill out the post:
If you'd like to for shits and giggles, here's some notifications that may be used:

OKCINDR PROFILE RESET #4
PLEASE RESET PROFILE
This month, if players reset their profile, they will have a list of questions to answer:
What is forgiveness?
Can a criminal ever really be forgiven?
should you be forgiven?
Is a crime ever justified?
How do you justify your crime?
Can you forgive someone who's wronged you?
Players, of course, are able to ignore this message. However, if a character wouldn't fill it out but a player would like to participate... the profile mysteriously resets itself. "Then I suppose the both of us will stay." The fire apparition grinds it out pointedly, clearly annoyed about this entire thing. Of course he is, though. Yukina has spelled it out for him plainly and he still insists on not doing a damn thing about it other than pretending that the issue does not exist, or placating himself that since she knows she is fine just the way she is. Denial is not just a river in egypt, etc etc.
Beyond that.. well. He knows Kurama well enough. He may not know exactly what the fox is being punished for but they are both hard-headed to a fault when it comes down to it.
And Hiei is pissed off at this entire ordeal and will, naturally, dig in his heels to be an asshole.
"What makes you sure even in the slightest that these unknown forces will even stick to their word? Oddly trusting, for you."

"Is it? I seem to recall a great deal of playing by the rules of others since we met Yusuke." Koenma, Toguro, the whole dark tournament. It was playing by the rules of the territory that led to killing Amanuma, and they'd stood back to watch Yusuke fight Sensui alone. Twice. What makes this any different?
"Regardless, if the current theory about this world holds any weight, it doesn't matter, does it?"
no subject
"And, the same as here, what choice we we given?" Sure, Hiei could've said the hell with it all, but that would've meant an indefinite prison sentence in either the human world or the spirit world, something that he, obviously, did not want to deal with. To Hiei they are currently verbally sparring, in their own way, though he had obviously started it with his hardly bottled frustration with everything to do with both this place and his current situation re : Yukina and their relationship to each other.
"While we are still here, it does. At least in part." If only because they are currently living it, of course.
"Until we are otherwise released or something changes, anyway."

Considering he doesn't think they even exist.
Kurama isn't concerned about absolving himself of any crime in some naive hope of escaping this world. His priorities are more in line with keeping everyone safe and comfortable for as long as they could be, which - for the twins, at least - means addressing things as they come before it's too late. Nothing was ever on their terms here, and the sooner they understood that, the better. The same as he was constantly pushed to face his other forms, they were being manipulated into addressing their own realities, whether Hiei wanted to accept that or not.
“None. That's why our best course of action is to live as well as we can while we're here. The same as we always have, dealing with each new challenge as it comes.”
While we're still here, Hiei says and Kurama- pauses, uncertain.
“Released-?”
The fox glances away, trying to think. How does he explain this? If it wasn't clear already, what could he even say to ensure it makes sense? “No, that's... what I mean. Hiei, do you- realize why resetting the simulation was so important?”
no subject
Hiei will always have a hard time accepting things that are not on his own terms. The entire issue with his crime is that he had never thought about or even considered telling Yukina the truth. It had been his price to Shigure, sure - but even if the demon doctor is no longer alive, facing the truth of their relation is still too much.
Yes, Yukina was not nearly as pure as she liked to portray herself (at least not in the way of wanting to keep her fellow ice maidens alive, anyway), but he is still far too tainted in his own opinion. Not only by how much death he had directly caused, purposefully cast upon others but in all that he had been put through. Their worldviews were very different as a result, how they moved through the world. Yukina still held so much faith in humans and other people to treat her well and still held the ability to trust without having to be put through something like a trial beforehand.
Kurama may not find this to be valid, or true, but it is still how he views himself. As a corruption set to ruin what good is in her, still, despite everything.
Thankfully they turn to another subject instead of lingering on living the best they can here despite it all, and instead turns to look up at his partner with curious red eyes, blinking before he shrugs.
"Not entirely. But you needed the task done, so I got it done."

The matter of Hiei's past experiences coloring his perspective was not a new one, but - in this instance - it was one that the fox could never fully understand. He had lived centuries, caused too many deaths to count, betrayed friends on multiple occasions, and yet Kurama felt it was never too late to change and do things differently, to become a better person going forward. His mother had been enough reason to put his own history behind him, try to act accordingly, at least.
Although, like Yukina, Kurama was able to trust much more freely than the fire apparition. Very different worldviews, for completely different reasons.
For a moment, green eyes just watch Hiei, seeming almost uncertain how to process that response. He hadn't quite made an informed decision or demanded to know what was in it for him, he'd just done it. The confusion was likely as apparent as his concern, but processing that revelation was a distraction from what he was trying to say.
Back to the subject at hand.
“Many here wanted to destroy this world, thinking that would enable us to escape. That the reset would only serve to entrap us longer if it was allowed to happen.” That was typically Hiei's method as well, wasn't it? Even when it had failed before with Kaito, he still tried again the same way in Amanuma's territory.
“This isn't like anything we've experienced before, really. With what information The Chosen have-” It was not easy to explain to someone who didn't have the framework to fully understand everything involved, especially someone like Hiei who preferred the short and sweet approach to communicating.
“On Earth, those territories had physical limits, we had to be inside of them for any influence to work on us, for one.” Much like Yusuke having his shadow stepped on, but he's sure that Hiei is following along up to this point, at least. Less sure how long he might continue to do so.
“This world is different somehow. It seems that no one is truly running it, not anymore, anyway. Evidence also suggests- that we are not truly here at all. Our real selves may be back home, completely unaware any of this is happening, no one we know will have any reason to believe that we are gone from there, either.”
Back home their lives continue on as if none of this is happening. He glances over a shoulder as he speaks, pausing a moment before continuing, as if to give Hiei a chance to catch up. Or brushing past the implication there.
“If the theories are correct, we can not be released from this reality because we are also a part of it. Nothing more than fabricated code, imitations of our true selves.”
In short- “We can never return, as we were never truly taken from somewhere else in the first place. It seems that these versions of us will not survive outside of this simulation, and for that matter, I'm afraid that it’s unclear... how much longer we may be able to survive inside of it.”
So, yes, it really does go back to making the most of it and living as well as they can under these conditions. To the best of their abilities. The same as every other realm he's had to survive in, one must learn to adapt. Just as in demon world they run the risk of being killed every day, it is only a matter of time until their code corrupts like the other cities before them.
“While it's only really a theory at this stage, it seems to be... The most logical scenario. All things considered.”

“What?” Hiei grouses as Kurama stares at him. The confusion is what gets him more than anything else - he is used to the fox looking so conflicted after all. Always thinking ahead, always making sure that there were plans A through G for all of them. How he manages it is beyond the fire apparition if he is honest with himself.
Hiei never wakes up with a plan for his day, much less thinks through a strategy on how to get through a certain situation. Not a thing past his initial heist with Kurama had been anything close to planned, and he is still, somehow, incredibly, alive to tell the story.
Not that it would’ve bothered him too much if he hadn’t, but that was a story for another day.
The fire demon takes a moment to let all the information sink in, eyes darting here and there as if he is connecting dots or simply trying to sort it all out in his mind. There is a lot to chew on, here, and realities that Hiei doesn’t particularly want to dwell on. Beyond that… well. He still calls the demon world his home. Facing down inevitable death in some new place on a theory does not phase him.
“So we fight to survive in yet another new and odd place. What’s so different from what we’re used to?” A pause, and then - “Other than the scenery.”
Though, while they’re on the subject of all of this, and Kurama’s insistence that it is a theory -
“You’ve capitulated to a theory that easily?” He finds it unusual, despite all the sense that it made to him and other people. After all, Hiei knows there is someone in particular that the fox will want to get back to, the same as he has a job he wants to get back to.
“I suppose you do usually fall to the mental back and forth and planning for all manner of possibilities instead of focusing on a smaller or singular goal.” And with that little jab to the ribs placed between them, the fire demon sighs before deciding to say it despite what Kurama has already said.
“I am still resolved that if a chance presents itself, I will try. Otherwise this is simply a slightly more interesting version of the human world to me and I will treat it as such.”
no subject
“Not a whole lot, it would seem.” Which was kind of his point, there is no difference being here than there was being on human world instead of demon world. That's just it, this isn't the same as being trapped in a territory where they need to get out in order to return things to normal, it is an entire plane of existence on its own. They could die here or never be released, but they still have to live for as long as they're here, whether escape is an option or not. The easier they make that on each other the better, isn't it?
Like, perhaps, meeting Yukina halfway on the discussion that started this conversation before all of Aldrip is convinced Hiei's interest in her is something else entirely.
At the question green eyes narrow, but Hiei continues on so he doesn't respond right away. As if he's ever just been satisfied to accept one answer for anything, which is shortly enough acknowledged by mention of his juggling all manner of possibilities, at least.
“If I recall, going all in on one idea has always better suited you, Hiei.” Maybe the least charitable response, all things considered. A jab for a jab when the redhead is already annoyed by several factors that have brought them to this point. The fox's words are only confirmed by Hiei's unwavering determination to continue trying the same old trick, despite the evidence that it hasn't worked so far.

“And I am still alive and here.” Sometimes against his own will or by the skin of his teeth, but the point is there.
At times not bothering with many elaborate plans has equal results to Kurama’s plans A through Z. And he’ll uphold the point by simply refusing to acknowledge anything else.
“We are already here. A theory is only that, and if presented with an opportunity we should take it. So far as I can see it there’s no need to think about it any further. You’ll drive yourself up a wall.”
no subject
An eyebrow quirks just so at the last thing Hiei says, green eyes falling to the tree he'd been clawing at not long before.
“You needn't worry, I'm certain the walls can handle it. I suppose, in that case, there is nothing more to discuss.” They are both stubborn and neither likely to bend on this topic, after all, unless Hiei has more to add, he has work to get back to.
no subject
Hiei’s eyes roll as Kurama tells him that the walls can handle it. He isn’t quite so sure about that, dependent on just how much they were climbing them, but .. well. He isn’t going to sit here and pick at the small details with Kurama either.
There is no point. They’re both obstinate in their own ways , despite everything outwardly that may make one think that they would behave differently.
“There is not.” Well… they agree on that at least. Of all things.
