Salutations to all The Chosen of Aldrip,

My name is Richard Plantagenet, the Duke of Gloucester of England and the son of Duke of York. My time in this world may be merely a blink of an eye compared to some of you who have been residing here for over a full calendar year, experiencing the change of all four seasons under the sky. However, during my brief stay I have come to notice that there are plenty of wrongs in this world, which threatens the peace of our lives here. Now, some of these wrongs might be out of our control, such as the afflictions plaguing our environment. Or the activities of the council. However, this does not mean that we are completely powerless.

It has come to my attention that thee has been a several times when we have been faced with a violent threat and an attack, be it from monstrous creature from the depths of the ocean or a curse spreading among ourselves. I fully believe that we, as a community, could benefit from organizing ourselves so that we might be prepared when the next crisis arrives to our doorsteps.

I call forward anyone with any combat training, be it from military training, self-taught or magically oriented, and share their knowledge to those who might lack skills in self-defense. It is not in my intention to position myself as a leader, nor a raise an army, but to strengthen our teamwork and cooperation as a community. I am myself experienced knight who fought and served my king in a civil war known as War of Roses, and currently I'm learning the usage of firearms under the tutelage of Mr. Valentine. I am willing to train and pass down my knowledge to anyone who is willing to learn. However, I am aware that I am out of my depths and that many of you possesses abilities both as fighters and as tacticians that I could not even fathom. Which is why I sincerely hope those individuals to answer my call and step forward and help create a safer city.

Color me interested.

I have some experience in courtly warfare, magics and teaching ragtag bunches of people how to work together, and I'd also be interested in finding some sparring partners and pick up some new skills for myself. [This should be a good chance to scout for some useful people he can use talents to get closer to.]

Magic is forbidden crime that is punishable by death in my world. But I have come to understand that witchcraft is everyday occurrence for many and essential part of their lives. It will be good to have someone who can guide those in such arts that are unknown for someone such as I.

As I always say, human rules are for humans.

I'd be mostly teaching defense spells and how to recognize and avoid offensive magics, is that okay with you? I don't want to court disaster.

who am I to judge or limit what you teach if there are people willing to learn.

As long as you don't plan on cursing or bewitching someone I don't see the issue.

I have been told that some view magic as a method of worship. I shall not intervene with one's culture or customs.

Worship? I have heard of the idea that magic is granted by the gods, but never that using it would be worshiping.

Personally I view it more as manipulating elements, the same way you'd do to make a fire.

it has a little do with anyone's preferences. those who wield magic use it to enchant others to do their bidding.

i met someone who told me that in his world the ability to use magic was related to how devout they were. it is a little similar in my world as well, though instead of the divine the magic is a gift from the devil.

Ahhhhh. It could be seen as a blessing from the gods or a sign of how in tune with nature you where back where I'm from. Or as a sign of holiness, since it is a sign that you were found worthy and entrusted with a power like that, which could only be gained through devotion and good deeds.

Wouldn't the devil rather be greedy and NOT share those powers that made them special?

magic is unnatural and goes against our Lord's divine plan. the devil would want to seduce foolish souls from the path of light to the darkness with such gifts, tempting the mortal to commit crime against God.

that is the teaching of our church.

Hm. Isn't it quite arrogant of man to assume to know what the plan of the divine is? That's at least what I was taught back when I lived at the temple.

You believe in the Lord whose symbol is a cross, right?

Aye. A normal man could not even dream of grasp the makings of the holy and immortal. Only those who have been blessed and dedicated their lives to follow the word of divine might have a slight understanding of the plan. Our duty is simply to follow the teachings of the church.

That is right.

I see. That particular faith only arrived in my country long after my time, but I'm more or less familiar with it.

That said, if I were that Big Bad, I'd concentrate my powers on corrupting or misleading those few chosen ones, rather than to offer handouts of my powers all willy-nilly. A fake saint or a devout man making a genuine mistake would both net me a lot more than the effort of catching all those little fish one by one.

That's what I'd do, at least. I'm not trying to question your beliefs.

So you are from one of the lands where they sent crusaders to?

It is quite alright. I am not as familiar with the matters of divinity and faith as some from my home world. I am not so easily offended.

From even further. Our island was only touched by your missionaries in, hmm, the 16th century? There was some back and forth before it was finally formally allowed. The Crusades only reached till the Middle East if I remember it right?

As somebody who has to deal with gods from time to time, I can tell you that you aren't missing much. The divine tend to be either stuck-up assholes or annoying good-for-nothings who won't leave you alone. [somewhere, Suzaku is suddenly plagued by a bout of sneezes]
