"Insert yourself into the daily life of the Chosen, deepen positive bonds" is my "thing" from the Council.

Guess I can't sit too long without the big Jer-Jer coming for me. So Chosen, tell me about your lame day-to-day life. But keep it short because I don't really care. Just give me a list of crap you do so I can "insert" myself into you. And make it good, because I hate being bored.

Oh.

[Okay that's fair.]

We had a cat that used to stay around our house. It wasn't ours but I enjoyed him. He tried to bite sometimes, I didn't mind him. Did you ever have a cat before?

Yes, I think so. Rats are a really smart creature. I think they'd count. Did you have a pet rat? Was it smart?

Oh. I thought people kept pets in cages when they were rodents. Was it hard to secure them?

You had a lot of them. I see. Have you any pets like that here? Did you train them?

[To be honest this is one of the coolest things he's heard here, rat trainer.]

A pet wouldn't be a bad idea. Though here I would get it a nice large cage. Letting them be free range here may end up with them hurt. I could look to see if there's any place that I can find that has pet rats.

[Give him a second.]

Could you elaborate on what you meant by them coming and going? Why did they have free range?

[It takes Shoto a few moments to parse what this means. Letting stray rats in and out of someone's house isn't normal, and that doesn't sound like they had much a choice. Being bitten and living among rats. Then again, his idea of normal isn't normal for some people either. But it does take him a bit.]

It's nice that you'd help them. Are they all your pets? Or are some of them other people's pets?
