Hello. For those I haven't had the opportunity to meet yet, my name is Saralegui. I find myself in need of...advice, I suppose. On how I might support myself while here. I don't want to portray myself as completely helpless, but my experience and skillset don't seem very applicable to basic self-sufficiency.

That said, if there's ever a need for a politician, I'd be happy to volunteer.

I'm willing to believe that about when you had men. But I think the resources of a duke are considerably larger than what you're working with now.

As I said, my experience is in politics. More specifically, I'm a king in my own world.

[That's a hell of a claim, but he manages to look almost sheepish to say it, but still in good humor.]

It turns out those sort of skills aren't very transferrable to the current situation. I've yet to hear about any need for diplomacy, and from what I've seen, those attempting to claim leadership positions among the Chosen are more likely to be mocked than accepted.

Obviously. Such a position must be earned, not given.

I find it strange that you have only have a political background. Have you not seen conflict? War?

[Hey, he's never bowed to a dragon, but dragons are kind of an endangered species and not native to his area anyway. He's never even seen one in person.]

Of course I've seen conflict, but I'd consider dealing with such things to be just as much political as diplomacy and the like. Not to brag, but I'd consider my lack of fighting skills to be a testament to how well I handled those matters before they could escalate to outright war.

You'll find that there is, perhaps, an overabundance of politicians here without very much politicking to be done. Now's as good a time as any to develop some new skills. I certainly did.

What were your areas of interest in politics? You might be more skilled than you think, Saralegui.

"Interest" isn't really the word I would choose. By necessity, I've had a great deal of experience managing volatile people and political situations, and I've had success in forging new alliances with old enemies. My goal has always been to navigate conflicts without resorting to bloodshed and I've think I've done well enough, all things considered.

[With that brief resume delivered, he gives the man's image on the tablet a curious look.]

So does that make you a politician yourself?

Of a sort, yes. Duke von Riegan, at your service. Though here, I'm just Claude. And what might your role be, my floundering friend? With a little more context, I may yet be able to think of a role you can play in this fine society of ours.

You're the second duke I've met here. Our captors seem to have a taste for nobility. As for myself, I'm a king in my own world.

Maybe he should be surprised by how eager people are to help a stranger here, especially when this place is supposedly populated by criminals. But, well...frankly, he's used to people falling all over themselves to get his favor. And he likes taking advantage of it.]

Wouldn't we just be competing for the same jobs, then? Or is work that easy to come by here?

Maybe, but wouldn't it be more stressful to treat someone with animosity just because they could get a job you want? It's more fun to find a potential co-worker!

There's places that always need help, it's just a matter of finding somewhere you want to work in!

There have been some parties thrown here now and then. But as for money... I'm afraid you're stuck there as well.

There are many places here though that I'm sure will give you an entry position. They're not hard to come by.

Your logic is sound, but doesn't one generally need capital to start a business? I can hardly dream so big when already worrying about just feeding myself.

You do indeed require capital to either start or buy a business already established.

[Silco made a point of looking like he was considering, stroking his chin with his fingers before nodding.]

I'll give you one or two months to run one of my businesses. I will give you seven percent of the daily earnings for those months. That should provide you enough to find a place of your own and begin negotiations with one of the natives for their business. Your skill set should work for negotiations of that vein.

[There's a catch, of course. But he'd gauge interest first.]
