Good afternoon.

My name is Mitsuru Kirijo and I am going to be taking over management of the casino.

Obviously Aldrip has gone through some significant changes as of late and some of you may be looking for new employment.

Once renovations are complete we're going to have various positions within the casino to fill including bar staff, security, dealers etc. On the subject of dealers, we are also open to suggestions as to what games we're going to be running.

Anyone who has visited the premises in their current state will be aware that there is a substantial amount of work to be done to get the place up to even a halfway decent standard. As such, I would also be pleased to hear from those of you with a flair for interior design.

Let's just say a friend of mine said he'd be better off crushed in an avalanche.

[ Does Toph know any more than that? No, actually. But being a good judge of character also means once she likes and trusts someone, she also becomes loyal. If she's going to question them, it'll be to their face.

So in this case she's taking Vi at her word. ]

[ There is silence on Mitsuru's end for a moment, as though she's quietly deliberating exactly what to say next. When she speaks next she sounds just a little weary, ]

Perhaps I shouldn't admit to this so readily, but I was taken in by someone that I thought I could trust once before. With dire consequences.

So I'm grateful to you that you are able to nip this in the bud as it were. Before it progressed any further.

[ So not only does she not mind, and believe her -- which gives her a whole slew of points in her favor in Toph's book, further validating her decision to trust people once she likes them, in this case Shinji -- but then she goes on to get a little personal about it. Toph is stuck not wanting to shoot this down completely but also not being the sort of person who's all that good at comforting others. ]

It's not your fault people are lying assholes, [ she returns bluntly. In other words: she doesn't blame Mitsuru for trusting someone unwisely. ] Maybe it's not a big deal this time, I don't know, but I'm not going to take money from somebody who's hurt my friend.

[ And it's just that simple for her. ]

Something like that. I still feel as though I should have spotted warning signs.

[ If Mitsuru had an idea of what Toph was thinking right now no doubt she would make it clear that the goal of her admission was not to elicit sympathy or comfort. Still, as blunt as Toph's response is she appreciates it. ]

It's your investment. You have a right to veto anyone you don't feel comfortable having involved.

From what you're saying, it sounds as though this individual should be given a wide berth in all respects, not just from an investment point of view.

[ Toph really needs more friends that don't expect her to be comforting, so. Sweet. Works for her. And she warms immediately to Mitsuru saying she has a right to veto anyone she doesn't want involved. Some of the natural cocky attitude she normally carries fades away into a more conversational, friendly approach. ]

I don't know the details, and I'm not saying I'm writing him off forever. But some people have to prove themselves before they get their first chance, you know?

Anyway, you want me to play lie detector for you sometime, let me know. Doesn't have to be business related.
