[ When Cloud rolls out of his bed at the inn, he squints at the skyline of Aldrip. Squints at the phone-like device on his table, squints at the incoming light as if somewhat offended at how it's not making dealing with the last month of... whatever that was.
He decides the best course of action is to not get out of bed about it. ]

let's say i have a friend
and this friend might be a little confused about the city.
and maybe this friend is having a little trouble with like
[ ...He was going to say memory issues, and maybe "hey what the fuck happened for the past three weeks", but you know what — until he's sure he's not the only one experiencing them he's just gonna. Not. Talk about that. ]

[ He'll get used to it eventually, but man it's giving him the worst sense of deja vu. Speaking of... ]
kind of. it's not exactly one for one, but it reminds me of it.
tall buildings, narrow alleys, and neon lights were the hallmark of the most advanced city in the world where i come from.
we called it midgar, it was a real piece of work, even before you factored in the fact there was a whole other city underneath it.

Fascinating. Was the city beneath it similar, or more like the previous Aldrip we knew?

as for midgar—
it was and it wasn't. it was a slum. the midgar everyone knew was built three hundred meters over land, and was run by a singular corporation.
if you weren't working for them, or just didn't have enough money, well, then you went down to the slums, where you could at least catch a train topside.
