we're playing two truths and a lie. if you've never played, it's a game where you say three things: two that are true, one that isn't, and everyone tries to guess which one's the lie.

One: I've got a license for just about anything that flies, and I'm a certified flight instructor.
Two: I've had the same job since I was twenty-two.
Three: I don't have a favorite color.

Hmmm... I'm going to go for two. So? Are you a jobless vagrant?

Well, when you put it that way, I almost don't want to admit it.

Hah! I knew it. Hey, not having a formal job doesn't mean that you don't work. So? What do you spend your time doing, if not slaving away behind some counter?

[oracledriven]

That's a good point. Formal jobs never really existed where I'm from -- everyone pitched in to help with anything they could. As for me, most of what I did was hunting.

[feintofhart]

Hunting, huh? Where I'm from, people would consider that to be a job. Everyone needs to eat, after all! [ Some people more than others. ] Is that what you've been doing here too?

Alright, fair enough. Just never did it for money.

I've been doing my share of hunting since I got here -- and then some. You been around for long? There was a big food shortage a few months ago. Being able to hunt came in pretty handy for that.

[feintofhart]

I heard about that. And the refrigerators breaking quickly afterwards. I only got here at the end of last month, so I was here for the bounty of fish, not the scarcity.

[ Lucky him. ]

So if you didn't do it for money, did you live in the sort of village where everyone just takes care of each other? That's usually just as common.

[oracledriven]

Gotcha. Fewer mouths to feed during a crisis is for the best, anyway.

[No offense.]

That about sums it up. The whole village was self-sufficient. It's the place you're from like that? Since you said it was common.

It's only common in smaller villages where everyone knows each other well enough to want to provide for each other. Not a chance of that where I'm from. I'm a big city boy!

[ The biggest city there is on the continent, in fact, but nobody else needs to know that. ]

Where I'm from, it's every man for themselves, and money makes the world go around. Maybe it's not the way things should be, but it's certainly the way things are. Hunters like you would be more busy selling their meat in the marketplace than looking out for hungry mouths to feed.
