0-1, Network, UN: Anonymous

I want to start with a brief apology for this being an anonymous post. But there are several factors that are, in a way, forcing my hand.

[she's looking at you Viktor]

Despite that, I will answer anything you inquire with sincerity and knowledge I am privy to. Answering this anonymously in return is acceptable.

My question is, perhaps for many people here, quite simple: What is magic to you?

The follow-up questions that you can answer, but don't have to, are: How do you control it? Do you have a trigger for it, like heightened emotions and danger-sense? Or does it come from understanding and logic? Did you learn it? Or were you born into it?

I appreciate any and all insights you can provide me with.

Likewise. My family is full of Templars. It was quite a shock when my magic manifested.

[ And that's why she keeps quite a bit of her family at a distance, but that has more to do with politics and whatnot. It isn't her style. But she's familiar with the way the dynamic changes, to an extent. ]

The burning thing is par for the course. Or you might be like me; I froze something to a table and couldn't pull it off for a time. You live and learn.

Most mages in my world, when their magic manifests, are put into what's called 'Circles' where they are able to learn in a safe environment and master their abilities as they show themselves and as they are tutored. I was lucky; my city treats magic with prestige and like the gift it is.

Most of the rest of mages in the world are forbidden from ever leaving those Circles once they enter.

It sounds like the Arcane school of magic where I'm from; people can use it to create shields or to repel attacks if they're threatened. It's a handy thing to know.

[ Her own shields reflect her element of choosing, so not always the best in terms of robustness. ]

Magic may be considered useful on its own but in my world, outside of a single region, magic is abhorred and considered dangerous. Circles are used, therefore, to essentially imprison people. Mages are more susceptible to demonic possession than the average person, so they are kept there. It's a horrible system.

Templars are a part of that. They serve the faith and act as jailors in most of the world. In my region, they're little more than guards that investigate potential magical abuse. They are often easy to pay off.
[ And so corruption becomes a cycle. ]
