01. What Do Dreams Serve (video)

[Rosen was originally intending to avoid discussing his experiences visiting other people's dreams. That was until he began to reflect on some of the dreams he experienced and their underlying meaning. This explains why, for the first time in quite some time. Rosen is back on the big screen, appearing a little less cheerful and aggressive than before.

That's why he appears on video within the hustle and bustle of some fancy cafe. He's dressed in a seemingly tailored dark blue suit, minus the shirt, with his long white hair combed back and out of his eyes.]

Dreams are fickle, aren't they? Whether good or bad, the dreams we have are significantly more essential than we know. They reveal the truth about ourselves, frequently admonishing our fears while celebrating our victories.

Each dream you have is significant, whether you recognize it or not.

So...

[He pauses for a brief moment, clearly struggling to find the right words to say.]

I suppose what I'm trying to say is that you should think hard about your dreams and try to figure out what you fear or love about yourself. Dreams have a lot of importance, and some of you should sit down and consider what they mean to you.

If you have silly dreams, it is more a reflection of your mental state than the dream itself.

Dreams are simply a reflection of the turmoils and trials you experienced in real life, combined with your hopes and aspirations for the future.

Whatever, if you need your dreams to tell you something maybe you should pay a little more attention while you're awake

On the contrary, dreams don't mean anything at all. They're either pointless fantasies or straight up memories. So, in other words, useless.

If you have dreams about your "teeth" falling out, it usually means you are scared or anxious about a significant change in your life.

Maybe if you paid attention more to your dreams, you wouldn’t be such an abrasive little shit.

However, I digress.

[ Toph is a rude gremlin child but she's also one that takes any pushback in stride. Accordingly, she does actually engage in the conversation he'd been trying to have, even if she's still not going to commit to any personal reflection of her own. ]

The dream thing kind of sucks honestly
I kept getting my hopes up before realizing I was dreaming
But it's still not as bad as that time we all forgot who we were

[Rosen mentally applauds her for even bothering to speak about the suspect at hand. He was anxious that his message had gotten lost in translation somewhere. It would not be the first time, especially given his difficulty expressing empathy.]

If you don't mind me asking, what did you dream? It almost sounds as if you was chasing after something.

Why are dreams significant?

[Finally, someone willing to discuss the topic at hand. Rosen lets out a sigh of relief.]

Some dreams offer significant clues that may disrupt your ideal future, while others presage imminent tragedy. Too many people dismiss their dreams as frivolous and whimsical when they are not.

That sort of definition is dependant on the world itself though, isn't it?

The kind of magic. The rules. The way the world behaves.

I have no idea if dreams from other planes would serve a similar purpose.

However, I would not be shocked if such laws are ubiquitous in some way.

[ Toph would much rather no one get too empathetic at her directly. She can put up with a frank discussion a lot better than something soppy. So she actually shares a little now, proving her self-confidence isn't just bravado; she can be at least a little vulnerable without being defensive. ]

I haven't been home in over a year now
I kept thinking my friends were here
It just seems weird no one I know has shown up in all this time

Like I said, pretty obvious. I don't need a dream to tell me what I'm thinking on that one

Perhaps in a world of magic, but I doubt the scientific ones hold to the same principles.

Didn't I just say? There's nothing to be afraid of. It's just the life you've already lived.

I think that's a wise point of view. I found that I was dreaming of my homeland much more strongly than I have in a long time... in spite of all the daily tasks and concerns that occupy my thoughts completely around this place.

Or the life you might lead if you pay attention to the signs in your dreams.

Scientific ones? You mean worlds that are allegedly devoid of all magic?

Hrm, I used to think the same until venturing into my master's reality.
