Ryoji Mochizuki? Guy with a yellow scarf? We went on several dates together!

[The word "dates" gives him another pause. He wouldn't forget someone who he went on dates with, so either this is a lie or there is something wrong with his memories.

That second option really scares him.]

I need to make sure about something first... Did I tell you anything about myself?

[Dread starts to form at the pit of his stomach. Who he is as Ryoji Mochizuki is important to him - it's his existence outside of his true nature and function as Death. If someone close to him would forget him...]

[Aether stares at the answer with wide eyes feeling a sharp pain in his chest.]

So you're important to me and yet I can't remember anything. I'm so sorry. I really don't understand...

[It makes him think back to all those people he's met in the distant past, people who were gentle to him and his sister. And yet he can't remember their faces no matter how much he tries.

Just like he can't remember Ryoji's either.]

What has this place done to me?

[Aether is in great pain, isn't he? He could tell it that much, even through text. He would not wish such suffering to his friend.

There is only one thing he knows that he could do.]

It's alright - I think I had the wrong person after all! Don't mind what I just said.

[He regrets saying anything in the first place.]

[He knows what is happening now. He shakes his head, even though they're just texting each other. If he only knew where to look for Ryoji, he would run to him by now.]

We're friends. I might have forgotten, but I'm sure those memories aren't completely gone. So Ryoji... let's do everything again. Let's go on dates again! I want to remember.

[It's hard, to hold onto hope like that. Not when he has never existed for such a long time. It would be easy, Ryoji knows, for everyone to forget him.

But there's something in Aether's conviction that makes him want to try again, anyhow.]
