[Fandaniel has spent the last few days attempting to learn about the world's past. Now that Aldrip is no longer literally or figuratively on fire it's the closest thing he can get to relaxing. In his research, he's looked over old network posts and...

The feed starts with his sharp icy cackle. It continues for a few seconds before subsiding into a harsh giggle that Fandanial gasps around.]

W-was anyone intending to inform me that a man called Emet-Selch once walked this star or was I supposed to learn this on my own?

[There is a rattle of chains and rustle of fabric as he flops onto his back. His voice is more faint and distorted by echo.]

It makes a man wonder how and why the AI picks the people it does. How many others have been here that I should know about? That we should know about?

...How many of them lived among the Chosen who were absorbed into the simulation and are now forever lost to us?

Haa...haha...

You knew him, then? Its not that uncommon for people from the same, or similar, worlds to show up.

I don't know if anyone's kept a list of who's here, but you can go back on the network.

[How far back? He doesn't know, he got bored of it very quickly.]

I knew the man as well as he ever allowed himself to be known which was very little.

But never mind that.

He is less interesting to me than the fact that he's been here. I've heard of many on this star who have shared home worlds but this is the first I've seen anyone from my own...

Do you suppose the AI finds it simpler to strike different worlds multiple times?

Maybe? I guess it knows where a world is if it finds someone there.

[Assuming it wasn't completely random...and that the thing knew how to tell 'where' things were at all.]

Or at the very least that said world has no shortage of sinners for it to abduct.

Or people to just take and claim they committed some sin or crime.

[A number of people here really shouldn't be if this was a jail or a punishment.]

You seem upset by this. But really, I have to ask: what does it matter? There is no consistency to what is real to us and what is not. Someone may disappear into the simulation only to keep existing in our own universes, or appear again at another time.

[ Would any of this stop him from getting upset if someone he knew had once been here? No... but perhaps it's easier to put into perspective when trying to assuage someone else. ]

Yet I feel that, too, is a factor worthy of study.

Sure, just like every other unsatisfying clue provided to us. The trouble is actually managing to add it up into something useful.

Indeed, he was here for a time. He was rather helpful, but he has been gone for a time now. Perhaps you can mourn the loss of your compatriot over the gravestone he may or may not have toward Rumpitur.

[Silco had many dealings with Emet-Selch. It did not surprise him that these two were from the same place.]

Well, I suppose he was just a better man than I. I'll aspire to be more like him each day. Everyone lives tragedy at some point.

[He wouldn't give into revealing much of anything of himself. After all, there was a change his daughter had done that for him, and he wasn't keen to lean into whatever tidbits she might have let slip.]

And yet here she is, because this is interesting to her on some level. Not that she knew all that much about Fandaniel in the first place, beyond his surface-level demeanor, but this is so telling, honestly. ]

Maybe I should have figured. You guys are so similar. Neither of you seems to be able to discuss stuff on any sort of normal human level.
