You're welcome! I'm afraid I'm not a specialist on the matter either, so I probably only scratched the surface. If nothing else, it should help give you the general idea!

Regarding what data it would lose... It's a little hard to tell without someone more experienced looking into it; I can only assume it's referring to whatever information it's gathered since the last restart? Like RAM!

It seems the AI is, for whatever reason, incapable of performing the task itself... and is giving us the access, if I'm reading the message correctly.

As for the danger of us dying as the result... I assume that is an option. Although, personally, I feel like we can't exclude the possibility that performing the reset will cause the data of us being here to be erased as well, which means both are equally risky.

I don't even know what RAM means? I thought it was an animal.

From what I've read no one really knows. Except maybe this AI but they can't tell us.

Mmm, how should I explain it... It's something like a machine's short-term memory that allows it to function? If it overloads, the machine becomes slower and less efficient, which might explain the recent phenomena.

I suppose someone with more knowledge of computers should chime in... or we might be just left to guess what the correct answer is! We won't know until we try it~ ♪

I wish my friend whose made an AI and knows all about orbal networks was here.

I only just understand my Xiphone.

Oh yes, having people with experience like that would be helpful! For all our discussions, it will most likely still fall on them to actually take action.

I suppose that is usually the case, isn't it? We may be surrounded by technology, but few of us have mastered the skills necessary to control them. Quite unbefitting of the society, don't you think?

[personal profile] valiantarms 2024-10-02 08:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah. I can follow the instructions given but that doesn't seem right.

I'm not really sure what you mean by control. Isn't it just knowing what buttons to press normally?
coordinatroll: (check out our new price plan)

[personal profile] coordinatroll 2024-10-07 09:04 pm (UTC)(link)
I suppose that's what it boils down to, yes! That's essentially the knowledge required. Think about what knowing that enables you to do, however; computers are used in a variety of ways, from social media, news outlets, medicine, stock markets, supply chains to traffic control. Everywhere you go, everything you do, is dependent on someone, somewhere, pressing the correct buttons. In a way, doing so allows one to shape the perception of reality for entire communities or even societies, and in this world, it does so in a literal sense, as everything around us is created in that manner.

When you consider that, wouldn't you say "control" is the most fitting way of describing it?

[She was smart enough for this...

Um. Huh...]

So you're saying, like with medicine one, the person controlling it needs the knowledge to know what button to press. Or to have taught the computer what the right button is?
