It all depends. It's easier to learn swordsmanship if you're born to a noble family, and one with a tradition of knighthood. And it's still important to learn how to comport yourself properly off of the battlefield so you can carry on the family line.
I'm only too aware of the fluctuating number of healers (medics, physicians... whatever term you wish) here... we come and go, and there aren't enough of us. So I'm always glad to have an excuse to teach more people the craft. Even knowing the basics is a huge help.
