Salutations to all The Chosen of Aldrip,

My name is Richard Plantagenet, the Duke of Gloucester of England and the son of Duke of York. My time in this world may be merely a blink of an eye compared to some of you who have been residing here for over a full calendar year, experiencing the change of all four seasons under the sky. However, during my brief stay I have come to notice that there are plenty of wrongs in this world, which threatens the peace of our lives here. Now, some of these wrongs might be out of our control, such as the afflictions plaguing our environment. Or the activities of the council. However, this does not mean that we are completely powerless.

It has come to my attention that thee has been a several times when we have been faced with a violent threat and an attack, be it from monstrous creature from the depths of the ocean or a curse spreading among ourselves. I fully believe that we, as a community, could benefit from organizing ourselves so that we might be prepared when the next crisis arrives to our doorsteps.

I call forward anyone with any combat training, be it from military training, self-taught or magically oriented, and share their knowledge to those who might lack skills in self-defense. It is not in my intention to position myself as a leader, nor a raise an army, but to strengthen our teamwork and cooperation as a community. I am myself experienced knight who fought and served my king in a civil war known as War of Roses, and currently I'm learning the usage of firearms under the tutelage of Mr. Valentine. I am willing to train and pass down my knowledge to anyone who is willing to learn. However, I am aware that I am out of my depths and that many of you possesses abilities both as fighters and as tacticians that I could not even fathom. Which is why I sincerely hope those individuals to answer my call and step forward and help create a safer city.

It all depends. It's easier to learn swordsmanship if you're born to a noble family, and one with a tradition of knighthood. And it's still important to learn how to comport yourself properly off of the battlefield so you can carry on the family line.

I'm only too aware of the fluctuating number of healers (medics, physicians... whatever term you wish) here... we come and go, and there aren't enough of us. So I'm always glad to have an excuse to teach more people the craft. Even knowing the basics is a huge help.

uhhh neither? I was born with my powers, they don't come from anywhere but me.

long story short, the X-Men are mutants, which is a term that means we're all born with our powers. a lot of regular humans don't like the idea of mutants just, you know, existing alongside them. so the cause of the X-Men is to try to get humans to like us better by beating up the mutants that use their powers for crime or to terrorize people.

[Yeahhh.. They really should've shared more detailed descriptions, shouldn't they? Well, Richard is actually pretty much a regular face in the Last Drop so the staff most likely would be able to pinpoint him to Miller, were he to ask. Especially now that he was downstairs rather than heading to up and have a meeting with the owner of the place.

But staying true to his word, Richard heads to the bard right after he's done with daily business at the docks. When Miller arrives the place he is already occupying a booth somewhere in the background. There's a hunting bow and holster for arrows placed neatly next to him on the seat as nurses a glass of whiskey on his hands.

When Miller approaches him Richard looks up from his drink, expression neutral.]

Aye. You are the soldier from Rus', correct?

it has a little do with anyone's preferences. those who wield magic use it to enchant others to do their bidding.

i met someone who told me that in his world the ability to use magic was related to how devout they were. it is a little similar in my world as well, though instead of the divine the magic is a gift from the devil.

that would be helpful yes. there have been a couple who have promised to guide others in the use of firearms. perhaps you could utilize their services then.

I wouldn't exactly call raising a band of mercenaries or bandits a great thing either.

Ahhhhh. It could be seen as a blessing from the gods or a sign of how in tune with nature you where back where I'm from. Or as a sign of holiness, since it is a sign that you were found worthy and entrusted with a power like that, which could only be gained through devotion and good deeds.

Wouldn't the devil rather be greedy and NOT share those powers that made them special?

magic is unnatural and goes against our Lord's divine plan. the devil would want to seduce foolish souls from the path of light to the darkness with such gifts, tempting the mortal to commit crime against God.

that is the teaching of our church.

no, it wouldn't. but according to your previous definition they'd be the same.

a lot of people seem to skeptic about teaching others to fend for themselves. why?

Good. Someone from the unit approached me. It seems like your group is willing to cooperate with me. I appreciate that.

I do not believe we are making anyone master of any self-defense art or in combat. If we can teach people enough not to cut themselves when picking up a weapon and knowing how to use it, that would be enough for now.

I see. I do find those techniques to be worthwhile, yes.

That's correct. It's a long barrel, intended to shoot further and more accurately. I'm sure you're not the only one that's never fired one. I have an extra one I'm fine with lending out for anyone interested in learning, you included.

[She's a little protective of her personal rifle, given it was one of the few pieces of home she still had and was made by her father. She didn't want to risk something happening to if she didn't absolutely have to.]

Aye. A normal man could not even dream of grasp the makings of the holy and immortal. Only those who have been blessed and dedicated their lives to follow the word of divine might have a slight understanding of the plan. Our duty is simply to follow the teachings of the church.
