video; return of the radio show (forward-dated to march 10)

[Okay, so when Goro Akechi asks nicely for a favor, Kotone isn't one to turn him down. People are probably more likely to listen if it's not-him saying something! Besides, it's kind of fun to pretend to be a real news anchor, sitting next to Minato at one of the desks in the club building, holding a piece of paper in both hands. In light of recent events, though, her usually-bright smile is a bit more subdued as she mouths a few words, skimming down the paper, and then immediately makes a face.

It's so obvious to anyone who knows either Minato or Kotone that there's no way what they're reading out loud are their own words. Their broadcast goes live not long after Ragna's post.]

Good evening Aldrip!

I'm certain that we all are aware of the current events. Especially since the perpetrator behind the latest explosion decided to grant us with a live broadcast and--
[She pauses, scrunching up her face, because what's written next is so passive-aggressive about "the person in question not having a plan, and how no one should be surprised that person didn't have a plan." She'll just leave that part out and skip ahead,]

Considering the nature of the Council, it'd be foolish to think this attack will be left unpunished. However, we aren't sure if they will come to us as a whole or just target the perpetrator. Honestly, both are plausible scenarios. Which is why I believe we need to gather all the information we have of The Council.

[ Why is this so long?? Minato leans over a bit, squinting at the mess of handwritten notes in front of him. ] A lot of people have theorized that they are the ones responsible for our presence here, or that they are godlike creatures. While I believe this is an important theory to keep in mind, I’m not sure that’s the case here.

The council was originally absent when The Chosen arrived here for the first time. They only became active back in October after we went through the Maze. [She makes another face, because the maze sucked.] For those who weren't here back then, here's a quick summary: One night in September the town transformed into a gigantic maze with different levels that we had to clear while facing our fears, insecurities and memories related to the crimes in our parchments. After a few days the maze disappeared and town returned back to 'normal.' That's when 'Jerry' appeared and began to act on behalf of The Council to rehabilitate the criminals.

…‘someone' suggested that we might have entered a whole different timeline after coming out of the maze. [ He takes a moment to shuffle through his papers because, what maze…? Minato glances over his shoulder at something off-screen with a puzzled expression before looking straight ahead again. ] There’s no concrete evidence on this, but we shouldn’t ignore it either. The odd behavior from the locals would suggest it. They’ve been seen freezing in the middle of action before suddenly changing their opinions and behavior, along with being… unable to offer any proper information about the world they live in.

It could be that the world is preparing for another world-altering change right now, just like back with the maze. [Maybe they should have led with that?]

We also believe that we are hardly the first group of The Chosen who have arrived. There have been mentions of previous "cycles", indicating that there were others before us. These cycles were mentioned in the graves that we came across during October's witch hunt — [ He glances at something out of view again with a curious tilt of the head. After blinking a couple times with a frown in that direction, he turns to his notes again. ] — along with… an underground grotto where we found pictures of the people from past. [ Minato frowns a bit because that’s… mildly concerning if true. Frankly, he doesn’t know whether anything in these notes is true at all. ]

The biggest indicator, however, that we are not the first ones here are the sudden images, video and audios clips we received after our expedition with the fairies back in July. [Her mouth opens in an "oh" as if she's only just realized something herself, then shrugs and continues reading,] Those clips showed people from the past discussing about their "crimes" very similarly to our own. They also mentioned dealing with similar trials and monsters like we have. So, it would make sense if we assume that everything that we have gone through has happened before, and that we are following some sort of a script...? [HUH?? Now it's her turn to stare off-screen mouthing 'what?']

Or at least, that was the case until the destruction of the City Hall. [ Finally, something he actually has firsthand knowledge about and doesn’t need to glance over his shoulder to make sure he’s reading things correctly. ]

[Apparently whatever she's looking at off-screen is prompting her to continue, because she makes a face but checks her papers again. And then makes yet another face, deciding to paraphrase what's written there.] The Council is really powerful and can alter people's memories and bodies, but maybe they're not the ones behind the maze...? 'Cause apparently we don't have any proof that they can change reality. So maybe they're just a product of maze instead of the ones behind it. [She scrunches up her face and checks the papers again, a little doubtfully,] Maybe like Jerry, they're being used as tools by someone with greater power...? [She's kind of regretting agreeing to do this... she should have made Akechi read his own hypotheses...]

We don’t know who or what that powerful being may be. It could be the ones that locals call Those Who Were Here, but they seem to be deities only to Aldrip. None of the other towns have shown any signs of religion as far as we know. They might be a red herring set out to mislead us. [ He speaks flatly with an impassive expression. Minato clearly doesn’t actually believe or agree with anything that’s coming out of his mouth right now. He maintains his focus though, eyes trained on the notes in front of him. ] Whatever it is, we believe we can all agree that their excuses and explanations about wanting to rehabilitate us is bullshit, along with our 'crimes.' [ Minato looks off camera again and gives definitely-not-Akechi-Goro a thumbs-up. ]

[Kotone puts down her papers and sticks out her tongue a little as if trying to figure out how to talk normally again after all that formal language.] Anyway, that's just a summary, so if anybody has any other information, go ahead and let us know! How was that, Goro?

[ ooc: Replies will mostly be from Akechi, but possible peanut gallery-ing from Kotone and Minato!

Also please feel free to tag each other too! Hop on in and let’s start cooking some theories \o/ ]

Huh. Back home, we've got this thing called cyberization. It's when you upload someone's data to another realm and preserve 'em for good -- makes you immune to death, but you also stop being real if that makes any sense.

Something tells me this ain't the exact same thing... but if you're seeing shit load in real time... yeah, this could totes be a simulation. Maaaan, that's fucked. The only chance we've got at making it out of this is by destroying it, yeah? Which is kinda what 'ol Big Boy tried with the council, but it doesn't look like it worked.

[....Wow he hates learning that it's an actual option someone has experience with. And so just sighs. It's the sigh of someone who is just Fucking Done.]

'Yeah, cause destroying the fake scenery is really gonna help... If it's your.. cyber bullshit, than the real power's gonna be outside it completely, right? Like why would they bother to get that close to the cage.

[ space is fucked up, man. maybe living in the early 2000s is for the best. ]

So long as a thing's alive -- even if that thing is the strongest force you've ever seen... it's gotta have a weakness. Maybe they didn't have any other choice. I mean, that's the best case scenario, or else we really are fucked. If we've all got crimes, this is just a big prison, right? They need us more than we need them.

I dunno if he made a dent in anything or what. But... I can't shake it. This feeling that something real fucked up's about to happen. It's like-- this dread. It's not just me, right? You guys feel it too?

[man fuck space, he can't even imagine a world outside his shitty tiny city]

...Yeah. And even if it ain't alive, really.

[Hashtag weird relationships with death in his place.]

I was saying up there-- I think it's been in motion for a while. Someone I know got a weird message about the environment updating-- then there's been a ton of shit I've heard about that doesn't even make sense. Some bunker full of weird equipment experimenting on the local animals, the whole... static-fucked-up monsters by Kestoria. Everything about interacting with the Council's weird, and then the Kestorian's tanking everything that runs on power...

Yeah. Thing's've been coming to a head for a bit.
bonobos: (Clean on the outside)

[personal profile] bonobos 2024-03-09 09:27 pm (UTC)(link)
...Yeah. You're right.

[ he gets it, in a weird way. once again, chalk that up to living in space: you see a lot of peculiar shit over time.

for some stretch of time, sha-ming is silent. his throat is taut with tension. there are... more than a few things here that hit him in a really bad way, things explicitly rooted in his own personal experiences. ]

...Sounds like we're somebody's guinea pigs. You think the endgoal is to kill us -- or somethin' worse?

[ fellow nihilist, how bad is it gonna get. ]
drugsnotclubs: (23)

[personal profile] drugsnotclubs 2024-03-09 09:31 pm (UTC)(link)
[That's cool, long pauses work just fine for him. And while it's useless over the audio feed, Sha-ming's response is getting an immediate head shake.]

....Nah. If killing us was the goal, it'd all be pointless. I figure it's more just throwing a bunch of people together and seeing what happens. Cut out what doesn't work, add in shit that does. Rotate it out every so often to try another way.

Or just delete us and reset us, who knows.

[It feels completely fake to talk about it like this. What is this dumb video game bullshit??]

People who die here from the things here don't really stay dead, anyway. I watched a guy get eaten by a monster, and he was back like two weeks later. Same version of him and everything.
bonobos: (Do it ride good? (Good))

[personal profile] bonobos 2024-03-09 09:45 pm (UTC)(link)
[ how does this just keep getting worse… shinji might hear the slap of sha-ming’s palm hitting his own face. ]

Man… fuck.

[ eloquently said! ]

Life or death’s one thing — not having any control over who you are and how you live… that’s real hell.

[ a big sigh. video game bullshit indeed. ]

What you’re describin’ is a textbook experiment. You get a control group and you mess with the variables until you get the results you’re looking for.

Guess the question is… what’re they measurin’ to start with?

[Sometimes, 'Ah, fuck' is really all that can be said. He's nodding, because it's such a mood. Not that it carries over onto their discussion at all.]

Hell if I know. I'm more of the 'hit shit' guy than the 'figure shit out' guy. [This is kind of half a lie, but whatever. He's definitely better at the first one.]

Guess all we can do is look at what's changed. The people here. The way the locals treat us. How we talk to each other, what with people getting more of those big stupid screen things.

[it's a fucking tablet, they existed in 2009 shinjiro]

Gave a face to whatever is 'over' us-- from what people say the Council has only really been around since a little bit before I got here. I dunno if anyone had anywhere to direct themselves before that.

In the bunker they were trying to make some sort of...computer or something? Something really big, using both living and nonliving things.

I still have the schematics I found.
drugsnotclubs: (50)

[personal profile] drugsnotclubs 2024-03-10 03:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh yeah?

[That sounds like something useless to Shinjiro, but extremely helpful to someone who could actually understand it.]

You mean like... blueprints for the computer they were trying to make? I bet someone who knows shit about that could piece together something from it.
solitarysoul: commisioned art (hmm)

[personal profile] solitarysoul 2024-03-10 04:04 pm (UTC)(link)
I think so? I don't really know anything about computers, but back home there was something similar that was trying to connect everything and build a god. It at least sort of worked.

They've got a lot of notes on them so I'm not sure how useable they'd be, but I can show them to anyone who wants to see.
drugsnotclubs: (26)

[personal profile] drugsnotclubs 2024-03-12 03:43 pm (UTC)(link)
....Huh.

['Connect everything and build a God' bro what is this, Evangelion.]

The notes might help, actually. If the plans are just design, then whoever wrote the notes would have been doing or figuring something out with the design...

[this 100% sounds like something Akechi would love. Shinjiro has no interest in pouring over schematics.]

Maybe someone here can go over it with you and see what they can figure out
solitarysoul: commisioned art (hmm)

[personal profile] solitarysoul 2024-03-12 05:33 pm (UTC)(link)
I can show them to someone, hopefully they can make more sense of it than I can.

Just need to figure out who and where to me.

[Perhaps who might the mysterious person behind this post.]
