Well. As someone from "Medieval times", I'm going to offer some advice.
First: any food and drink that can spoil, and won't fit in one of the root cellars, put it outside so the cold can care for it. I would suggest hanging it from a second-story window in a basket so that animals can't get to it so easily.
Second: I don't know how many good candles are in the village, but we should all learn to make rush lights. They're not enough to read by, but they'll keep you from hitting your shins in the evening. We'll have to go back with rising and setting with the sun until we can resolve this.
Third: Layers. Wear sweaters, cloaks, capes. We'll have to gather firewood to make up for any shortfall. If you live alone... find someone to stay with. I know it can seem salacious to people used to at-will winter heating, but if you're comfortable with sharing a bed with someone, it does save a lot on firewood and blankets.
Finally... if you're excessively cold for a long time, and you start feeling confused, forgetful, or much too clumsy, find someone right away to help you get warm. Those are signs of hypothermia. And if you find someone in such a state, don't let them fall asleep.

I recommend you both stay with Dara or at the farm, then. It'll be much safer for all of you and you can share cooking and firewood.

[He includes himself in 'useless and troublemaking.']
Yeah... I'll hit them up and see about hauling some stuff over there to ride it out. The winter's gotta be close to over though, right?
[it feels like its been foreverrrrr]
...I better get an axe for wood cutting so I don't blunt the hell out of mine, too.

When you put it like that, I'm surprised it took as long as a year for this to happen.
But you're right, we are in the last full month of winter. The temperatures warming up will do a lot to help. And I'm sure that needing to get outside to plant and do all the other things that need doing in spring will help people take their mind off of this situation, too.
...An axe for wood cutting is a good idea. I knew someone at home who was an axe fighter and he was particular about that.

[Oh, she knows a fellow Axe-Appreciator. Excellent.]
Yeah, slamming through monsters and through wood are pretty different. I gotta say, the monsters kinda feel easier sometimes.
[Probably because he doesn't have to be so careful with that. It's more the weight and strength behind it that he uses than the blade, anyway. That.... has no translated great to wood splitting.]

[She will have to give that a long, hard think.
But her lips quirk. Lex is very, very different from Shinjiro, but she expects they could have a long companionable chat about the merits of axes.]
I expect they would be. At the end of the day, they're a lot softer than trees are.

[He doesn't know why he would have thought that-- maybe just because the locals seemed not only used to them, but had the amenities to spare. While they can't number more than a few dozen, having strangers accused to crimes showing up and knowing nothing is enough of an event to make note of. The locals just seemed.... used to it.]
Hell of a lot softer... ah, well. Guess we'll be needing it in spades so I better stop bitching and get started.
