My greetings to you all. For those but recently arrived, I am Erichthonios... and I am on a quest for a particular sort of vessel.

I am searching for a container or containers made of glass... or some other manner of substance which is readily transparent. But it cannot be any manner of glass. That which I require will need to be of significant strength... in other words, resistant to shattering. I will also need something able to form an airtight seal...

If you know of a merchant that has such a good among their wares, or are able to make such yourself, I would very much like to speak with you.

[It takes Erichthonios a moment to read. Plastic is... a substance unknown to him, though he is not beyond entertaining the idea of other candidate materials.]

It need not be large. My intent is to collect soil samples from Rumpitur. Namely, samples of the soil tainted by the creature that poses a threat against both us and others living upon these lands. I wish to ascertain its characteristics... what it affects, what it does not affect... and in so doing hope to develop a means of effectively dealing with our newfound foe.

I dunno glass sounds pretty good for that.

Aye. The creature left traces of itself upon the soil, and these traces have continued to affect the soil's fertility. Wheresoever the creature has laid its mark, life ceases to flourish.

Huh.

You gonna get some from the island, too? If that thing's still hiding away, might be easier to get out there and get some stuff. I figure that'd have the most mark or whatever.

You have a strong point. Once materials that can safely transport the substances are acquired or made, I would not object to going back there.

Though mayhap limit the excursion to no more than a day or two at a time, lest it be tempted back. We were not its first sacrifices, and as far as the creature knows there may yet be more supplied...

Yeah. Definitely wouldn't recommend anyone staying the night there. But the place is full of the bones of people it killed, so there's plenty to choose from.

Though if the thing is that easy to tempt back, setting a trap for it ain't out of the question, either. We were exhausted and caught off guard last time. Going in ready for a fight would probably make it easier.

It is plain enough that it possesses some means of detecting its prey from a distance. We saw this not only in our own experience, but in what recordings were left behind.

What those means are, however... are yet a mystery. There is much we do not yet understand.

I don't know if this place has like tupperware or something like that, but I can look.

Though... if I may ask, what is tupperware?

Oh, uh, it's like...plastic containers. They're all different sizes.

Usually for keeping food in. Like leftovers and stuff.

This is the second time I have heard this plastic material spoken of...

Is it common on your star?

Pretty common, yeah.

I know my mom had a bunch of them.

Mayhap we shall be fortunate enough for it to appear here. If living beings from our stars have shown up, surely an object would also be possible...

It shouldn't be that hard, yeah. Maybe they have some sort of equivalent here.

Sure! I can do that. I mean, there's gotta be some form of containers here that you can use.

Are you just needing to store food, or what?

'Tis my intent to collect some of the contaminated soil seen in Rumpitur, to study its properties and ascertain any weaknesses it may have, that we might be better able to contend with our recent aquatic foes, and reverse the damage to the fields.

However, 'tis a substance I suspect should be treated with the greatest of caution. We would not want it in the fields here... which is why I require a container of the specifications I mentioned before. To observe, and to prevent it from being carelessly spread.

[Little does he know, the contamination is already spreading.]

Would you really be able to reverse the damage?

I fully believe it to be possible. We need look no further than the forest beyond Aldrip to see that this is so. 'Twas a desolate wasteland when I was first brought here.

It came from the ocean, right? Do anybody have a way to get, uh, samples from down there?

Hmn.... [That... certainly is a thought.]

I will ask those I know if they have any underwater foraging experience. Though the ocean currents may pose a problem to locating any traces... save for whatever den the creature may inhabit.

...yeah. I don't know anything about underwater stuff. Just, if you want to get samples, its a good idea to try.

[Not that he has any ideas what these samples would be good for, but he knows scientists get that stuff and...something. Somehow learn stuff.]

We will eventually need to locate its den regardless. Though... perhaps 'twill be better to wait until we study what is more readily accessible to us first.
