[ Although the bad dreams have eased somewhat, Emet-Selch decides to make one last effort to try and fully satisfy the conditions for his so-called 'rehabilitation'. To that end...he has come up with a proposition. ]

Mages of the 'Chosen': how many of you draw upon the latent energy of your land to fuel your magicks and find yourself rationing your power day-to-day? I have some tests I would like to conduct.

Those completely lacking in magical ability are also welcome. I have a different sort of experiment for you.

Most people in my homeland have some slight potential for using magic that can be trained--it's a little like musical talent, where everyone can at least do a little but few people train.

I focus my energy through my staff, but it has a limited amount of use before it needs repair, so in that way I have to be careful about how often I use it. Do you think you would be able to fix it if that happened here?

Other than a few specific spells, I haven't noticed too much different about my arcane abilities. My connection to the Light feels a little weak, but I've just started practicing it, so maybe it's my fault.

What I'm having the most problems with is my nature magic. It feels like I'm reaching out to nothing.

[He's somewhat aware that the magic of Etheirys is different from the magic he's used to - at least in the ways that its users construct and understand it - but he's not sure how different it is, so he doesn't know how much to explain. Or even if he'd be explaining it in a way that makes sense to Emet-Selch. And, of course, there's his ever-present feeling of insecurity making him nervous about the whole thing...he's been using nature magic for years, but most of what he knows has been intuited more than officially taught. A more experienced shaman could figure this out, he's sure, he's just not good enough to do it himself.

But he's gotta try, so he decides to start at the basics.
]

Shaman are supposed to be able to speak to the elements. The spirits of the land, and of water, and fire, and that sort of thing. But...no one is responding when I talk.

It's like, when you're in a room and you're talking because you think someone else is with you, but then you turn around and they've already left. You weren't supposed to be alone, but...you are.

All but the most basic of spells, yes. There's a little bit of, you know, "spirit" in us, so I can manage to use that.

But...
[How can he properly convey how weird it feels? Well, maybe Emet-Selch gets it without him having to say more. He seems like a smart old guy.]

I've been to other planets, and there were spirits there. It's not just an Azeroth-only thing. So...I don't know why this world wouldn't have any.

[He almost tells Emet-Selch that he's done that before - shared the magic of others and pooled disparate powers into one. But it is technically supposed to be a secret - at least for now, he's pretty sure; the Council of Tirisfal was a covert operation, and its new members hadn't agreed to reveal themselves, or him, to the world. Of course, maybe that was all moot here on this completely different world...but better to remain discreet for now.]

What sort of experiment would help us do that?

[And also; ]

On my world, we have something called 'aether', too, but I don't think it's the same thing you're talking about.
