[Tablet users will receive a message from a girl looking to be somewhere in her teens. Her voice is almost monotonous, and her expressions are also rather reserved.]

Hello. I am Echo. I've been wondering about something, and thought gathering additional information would be helpful.

[Get used to this, all she ever used the network for in her last world was asking questions.]

Regarding these "crimes", has anyone found the accusation to be... oddly lenient?

[Her head tilts just slight to one side.]

For example, perhaps you were charged with the simple theft of a piece of fruit when it would not be out of the question to be accused of a deliberate arson attack. Or do the unspecified powers that be not involve themselves with acts that are traditionally considered to be the most severe?

Thank you.

[She gives the camera a brief polite bow.]

uhhh

can't say i have that problem actually. the punishment still seems to be living here no matter what they think you did. at least until they finally start giving us dates to be sentenced
[ And presumably dole out something worse...... ]

I think regardless of what your crime is, you'll be punished harshly. Even if it's simple as stealing a piece of fruit.

[Yu looks thoughtful in response as he takes in the observation. He hasn't yet been engaging with the nature of his so-called "crime" as much as he'd like, but...]

That's a good point. I know some people whose crimes are fairly serious...but it's not universal. Mine is tame by comparison.

[... If you could even call it a crime, really. But it's true that he's done arguably worse than what he's been charged with.]

I have a few friends here who shouldn't be here. Especially when they haven't done anything wrong.

[Shinjiro, maybe. But Kotone? Why was she here when all she wanted to do was save people?]

Some people said their crimes were fake.

[ Hi, Echo. Here is Ange - being informative, as she promised.

It's not like Echo isn't bringing up a good point, after all. And Ange is always willing to have discussions about this place and its nature with people who are willing to consider this place in a serious sort of way. ]

So I imagine they just picked completely at random. I don't think there's any reason to it.

[ G'raha himself seems rather fidgety. His own crime... Well- ]

I, for one, would not necessarily state that it is "lenient." Mayhap open to interpretation instead.

[ He had only carried with him the hopes and wishes of everyone from that time. G'raha doesn't know if that makes it any less a crime. ]

What I do know is that if I were to be given that choice again, I would still make the same one. The alternative shouldn't ever be considered an option.

[He tilts his head, giving a small, thoughtful sigh.]

It should have been. I'm not sure what I've been charged with should really count as a crime in the first place...and not for lack of better options.

Yes, they have and I believe that this should be fixed. Although, I'm not sure how.

For some, perhaps there were too many crimes to choose from and they rolled the dice on which one to assign to us. Or those crimes were ones that would either:

a) Cause emotional trauma
b) The person has no intention of repenting over
c) Test to see how we view one other's crimes

Or it could be for a completely something well beyond the thought processes of mere mortals. After all, we haven't been graced with their objectives in bringing us here at all.

oh it's a big garden area. a few months ago we had a bit of a crisis with the refrigeration so uhhh... long story short, a ton of food went bad and we had to do smth about it.

once it was all over they decided to make a statue of every. chosen. even the ones who didn't help.
[ Even the ones who made it worse. ]

From what I've been able to tell, it's been random for everyone. I, for one, am being accused of something I didn't do. Others have been as you said, accused of something more mild than crimes they've actually committed. I haven't quite been able to find a pattern to it yet.

[which is annoying!! if there was a pattern, there might be an answer, which might get them closer to understanding how this place works.]

That is what is open to interpretation. What is "worse" or "better" varies from person to person and from culture to culture. What one might perceive to be a lesser offense might not be so in the eyes of another.

This isn't the first time I've heard that. [A beat.] I won't ask you to talk about yours if you don't want, but mine was pretty...strange. "Loyalty." I can't deny that it's true, but I don't see how it counts as a crime to begin with.
