Has anyone been experiencing occasional instances of apparitions in this fog that has rolled in everywhere? I've found little evidence that this is a common occurrence, but I remain a new addition to this place.

[Silco had seen fog and plenty of smog. He knew the difference between thugs lurking in the obscurity and the phantoms out of the corner of one's eye. Time to see who was useful.]

Yes. I have a farm in the meadowlands and I seem to be seeing apparitions of my husband and wife. It is... An odd occurrence. I am not sure what is happening; it is the first time I have seen the fog do this since I have been here.

Are your partners currently alive somewhere else?

Yes. Our species are "blessed" with immortality, you see. But, ah... It makes me wonder, if you can see shadows of those who have passed as well. I do not have any relatives that are dead yet, so I would not be able to test this theory.

It seems possible the dead can be seen in the fog. Perhaps there is no current rhyme or reason, but it is beneficial to know others have experienced similar symptoms.

Mm... I do have to wonder if those who brought us here have started making their move. I would be careful, should you see shadows in the fog once more.

I would not want any harm to come to any of us, no matter what crime we have committed.

And what do you theorize is their motivation towards us? That's a rather sympathetic approach when some of the crimes may be truth. Or all of them.

I cannot say... I truly have not thought of the reason why, but perhaps it is just a reminder for us that we may be powerless here. Control, and fear.

It is. I suppose I am too sympathetic, or perhaps just neutral on those things. When you see it every day, you become... Numb, I suppose.

Control and fear can be powerful motivators if employed correctly. Perhaps we are to be slowly punished for the crimes that we are accused of, and that this place will be our penance. Perhaps your future opinion will be different with repeated exposure to the other 'Chosen'.

I would not be surprised if that were the case. Whether they believe our crimes are false or not, we will be punished regardless I am sure. Those who brought us here do not seem to care.

Aha, perhaps. I suppose we will see.

There are always monsters lurking in the smog where I'm from. However, they are usually more tangible than what I have seen.

Yes, and no. I have slain many, so I suppose in the eyes of the law, I am a murderer. Perhaps I see myself as such, and why I am here.

Indeed. I find it interesting that that's the crime I've been accused of when I'm certain there are plenty to choose from.

Yes, you are right. I have met many monster shaped humans in my time.

I suppose there is no use in hiding it. In my youth, I was kidnapped and tortured for my powers. I killed the man, and ensured that he stayed dead. Then, again, in my youth, there was a war. Assassins came after me, and I dispatched of them before they could finish their job.

Is that so? Then we are in good company... I have many charges I could think of, but this one in particular is quite interesting. Perhaps it is because I do not feel guilt.

And just as many human shaped monsters. Everyone has a monster inside of them. Perhaps that's why we're all actually here. Your story comes with quite the exploits, and your skills are better for it. How do you plan on utilizing those skills in this place? Your crimes gave you what you needed, so why feel guilty? Some of us are bound for a higher purpose and need to step on a few bodies to reach it.

Mm... I have not been asked that question before. I suppose all I can do for now is use it for my own protection. I am... Unsure about the citizens of Aldrip, and do not know when their kindness will turn. While I am grateful for their kindness, I do not know when it will end, and when our... Judgers will act.

... My husband once told me that we must do things in life to survive. I suppose his words ring true, even now. But ah, enough about me. You said that you were charged with racketeering. What did your business entail?

And what kind of monster do you become? There are so many types to choose from. The populous could be luring us into a false sense of security to be able to take action against us once our collective guard is down. Or perhaps in future, we are to become their slaves or any other manner of exploitation. Our punishment seems rather nebulous. Survival is required for change. Buying, selling and distributing elicit contraband is the best description. I had several partners (to put the term loosely) who assisted in such activities and helped to fortify profits and loosen border restrictions.

I believe people have told me that I turn demonic in appearance. I grow wings, and a mask over my face of sorts. I still hold my appearance, somewhat, but I do grow in size as well. Not too large.

I quite agree with you. It is important that we keep our guard up, no matter how kind they may appear. Who knows what they are thinking...

I see. I did that in my youth... During the war. While I do not know the circumstances, I do understand to an extent.

But you are not aware of such changes occurring to you? Time will give us indications on how they plan on proceeding, but I expect that they do not plan on being gentle for long. Considering the limitations on trade at present, your skills may be worthwhile cultivating here again.

In my youth I had trouble controlling such powers, and I would not remember when I would transform. However, now that I am... Much older, I am able to transform at will, so my memory of changing is intact, luckily. But I do hope I do not have to use it here, but considering our circumstances... I will not be surprised if I must.

I will consider my options carefully, as you are not wrong.

Either by circumstance or by design of this place. I wonder how many people will get hurt in the process of its use. Time seems to be on your side for considerations for now.
