[Only Serah's voice is heard a she fiddles with the charm to get it to work, with 'How do I— oh! I think that—' before she figures it out. There we go! She can get working, hooray!

She smiles brightly, being as inviting as she can here.]

Uh, hi. I know there's a lot of newer people here, myself included— I'm Serah, by the way— and it seems to be crowded for lack of living spaces. That was mentioned by someone else when we arrived [she's talking about you, Usagi!], so! How many here are good at building things? And is there anything we could use to build things like hammers, nails, you know, stuff like that? It would be a lot less crowded in places if we had something like dorms or even small houses— just something to keep a roof over your head without getting too crowded.

I have a little experience in building things up, but it's not... quite like this back on my world, but I'll take some help and get this started if it means we can be safe from the elements and comfortable in our own spaces.

[Bestie~ when she sees Noel's cute face, her smile gets even brighter, if that's possible.]

I knew I could count on you, Noel. [But that means she's curious— sure, she saw it for herself, but...] Before everything went bad in your future, did you help build up the village you were in?

[A little different, but the same ideals could be used here.]

[Interesting question. He has to think about that for a second, crossing his arms over his chest with a thoughtful look.]

Sort of. It wasn't the same, exactly -- the adults usually tackled building things, but they taught the kids whatever they could by starting us with repairs. After a while, we mostly just learned by doing.

[After a while clearly meaning when there were no adults left, in this case.]

I don't suppose you have a ton of building experience, do you? Maybe there are some builders around we can ask for help.

New Bodhum had to be built somehow, right? [Just a grin as she says that; she has some experience!] So I know a little bit.

[Getting to know what life was like for Noel at that time though... well, they prevented it as far as she knew, but it was still interesting to hear how they did things, especially since the Farseers were nomadic.]

But yeah, it's been suggested to do that! I think a lot of people want to have some of their own places to call home, so I've gotten a lot of help in being pointed in the right direction and a lot of volunteers so far!

[Noel mirrors the grin; that's pretty much the answer he expected.] Figured as much. Teacher, archer, now construction worker, too. You're busy no matter where you go, huh?

[It's only with Serah that he can keep a light tone like this when dealing with those questions, and it's a testament to how much he trusts her. ...maybe also to how much he missed her. Five hundred years is a long time --longer than he's told her about, really-- to be without a friend, after all.]

I get that feeling, too. Since it's starting to seem like some of us are here for the long haul...people want to make it more theirs, I guess. Hopefully we'll have enough volunteers and supplies to knock this one out quick.

[Hear that? We. He may have a place he's comfortable staying, but Serah's getting his help no matter what.]

What can I say, it helps keep me grounded if I stay busy like this.

[For her it hasn't been so long... it had been a few hours since she had seen him last before she woke up in a grain silo! But knowing they were both here... that was upsetting but also empowering. They worked well together, and damn if she wasn't going to keep it that way.]

We should! [a grin right on back, with a chuckle.] You wanna be roomies, Noel?

I know, I know. Some people just don't know how to sit still.

[He grins pointedly at her. Not like he has much room to talk, but she puts him to shame with some of this stuff, really. He doesn't always know where to even start.]

Roomies? [His eyebrows lift. What, having an actual room instead of crashing in a sleeping bag in some room above the bar? Huh.] Depends on how nice the rooms are. [A beat.] ... I'm kidding. It'd be a lot easier to watch each other's backs if we stayed close.

[Plus, you know. All that stuff from before about missing her. Personal stuff.]

[LOOK........... SHE CAN'T NOT................]

If I did, you'd think something was wrong with me.

[She says it almost as if she's offended, but the smile she has definitely belies that she isn't. She grows a little more serious when he starts thinking about... being roommates (oh god, they could be roommates).]

Yeah. Why not? And you're right, but I don't plan on going anywhere... but if something happens here, it'd be easier to find you, yeah.

[HE KNOWS THIS ABOUT YOU, SERAH. HE KNOWS.]

You're right. I would've been worried you were sick. ...or an impostor.

[He gets that look -- you know the one, the one where he's teasing and he sorta tilts his head to show it, but it's also not exactly a joke.]

That's a good point. I'd feel a little better about whatever this place might throw at us if I knew where to find you easily. All right, count me in. But first thing's first -- we've gotta get the buildings built before we move in.

I can't offer any help with the physical building of anything. I can heal and use magic to do some things.

Also, I have space in my room at the inn if one person needs a place to stay.

Thanks! That's still good to know, if someone needs the place to stay. And hey, magic is useful! I don't expect everyone to know how to build up a village, but if anyone gets hurt or otherwise, magic can help a lot.

[If fire can be controlled enough, just a little bit of flame to heat something up or whatnot? Can still be a great help.]

I must say that I am decent at building things. I have a farm just a few miles away from Aldrip that I helped build during it's construction. So... If you would like, I am more than happy to help with your project.

Oh! Yeah, that'd be great! I don't know when I'd start, but I'd really appreciate the help. Did you source everything from the forest, or was there other means to get any lumber you needed?

Ah... Actually, it is quite strange. The people of Aldrip supplied the materials for me. You need only but ask them and they will get whatever you need. They are... kind, almost too kind, if you understand what I mean?

Huh, really? [Weird, but... kind of concerning, especially with how he worded that.] So something's just kinda off, even when they're helping us? Can you tell me anything else about that?

They are just too kind, in my personal opinion. I suppose I am not used to such portrayals of kindness, but it is a bit odd... The way that they act toward us. They do not bat an eye at our arrival, and they are more than willing to help us at a moment's notice.

I suppose I am just a bit suspicious in my old age. But I cannot help but sense that something is off. I would tread carefully, but should you need anything, I can help you procure supplies if needed.

Maybe we're not the first to arrive here? Like, maybe before us there were groups that left before all of us started coming in? [That would be be weird, but... maybe?] But I can see why it'd be a little jarring.

[But his offer still makes her smile.]

Thanks! It'd be easier with someone already familiar with the process, I think. I don't mind meeting people to help you out too, just to get everything moving, you know?

WELL I bet you would be super jealous of my amazing hand-made log cabin!

[He grandly sweeps the 'camera' over what is, indeed, a little shelter at the edge of the woods. It looks sort of like this.]

I'm kidding. I mean, it is pretty comfy with the nice weather we're having. But we could probably make something better, if we worked together, got some building materials from the town, that sort of thing...

[...you know, that's still something and some might want something more... airy like that!]

You never know, some might really want to be outdoors like that! Like an extended camping trip! [Just putting a positive spin on everything, as she does.] It does look pretty comfy though, but the knowledge will help for bigger homes or even little cabins, if you wanna help.

[He laughs a little. He knows it's not quite a 'house' per se, but that doesn't bug him. It is a camping trip as far as he's concerned.]

Sure, I'll help. My foster-father and I would fix up our house by ourselves, so I wouldn't say I know a lot, but I can make, well, you saw. Simple things.

I know a little whittling, too. Just for fun.

Whittling could be for some decoration, don't you think? [Yep, sure is making this a positive thing too!] But even just some knowledge is knowledge enough. I appreciate the want to help, too. We might be in a prison, but we might as well make the most of it, you know?

Yeah! [He's ready to help!! And the idea of making decorations for everyone does sound - slightly intimidating, somehow, but in an exciting way.]

Is there someone here who really knows how to build houses? We could find a place and start setting the foundations. Maybe the locals have a good spot they could...let us have? ...or, uh, let us buy?

Iiiii have no experience in building anything but um... I could help if someone gets hurt? Or like, painting, I could paint things when they're done. Just don't, ya know, put me near actual tools.

Helping out any way you can is still helping to get people in a place to live that's not just the inn, even if it's painting the walls or making sure someone gets some first aid. I wouldn't say no to the help, no matter what it is.

Well, I am a master at nail polish painting, so I mean, just a bigger brush with more paint! You can trust me with that! So, count me in for painting! I'm happy to help!

Bright colours to brighten up the place sounds great to me! ...do they even have paint here?

[She hasn't seen any but that doesn't mean they don't...]

I guess I'll add that to my list, if we need to make it. I'm sure someone can figure that out too, right?

I mean, people have been painting for as long as we've been human, right? So... how hard could it be to figure out how to make paint?

I know a little, but we'd have to find something to make a pigment first. But we can cross that bridge when we get there, right? We have to build everything first! You'll have to show me your skills, Usagi!

But I don't have building skills. I have the opposite of building skills. I'm more likely to cause something to collapse than to stand up.

Oh, sorry, no, I meant in painting! I wouldn't mind a wall in my home that you've painted, either, if you're up for it!

...you know, once everything is built up, I mean.

Pink is definitely one of the best ones for me. A light one, kinda like my hair!

I love pink, too! And your hair color reminds me of one of my favorite people back home.

[ Well, Ange herself has zero experience building anything, nor does she feel like learning it now, but.. It's not like the problem of the overcrowded inn hasn't been on her mind, considering how much she hates the entire thing.

So.. ]

Maybe you could ask for help from some people with special powers too. You know, since we don't exactly have special machinery to build stuff the way they do where I come from. [ So it'd be easier if there were people that could.. she doesn't know, magically let heavy building supplies through the air or something.. ]

I know my own magic wouldn't be too useful for cutting wood or making lumber... but that doesn't mean others wouldn't, you're right. But a little elbow grease to do it the long way isn't too bad, either, if that's how we have to do it.

[If there were a little more up-to-date techy things here, it probably wouldn't be too bad— that's how New Bodhum was made, but... they don't quite have that luxury here! ~~yet~~]

Are you sure? Constructing an entire building is probably harder than you think.

[ .. or maybe easier than Ange thinks, sure. But she's definitely the type to think more easily that the glass is half empty rather than half full, hence her coming to this conclusion.. ]

Even if you're working with a lot of people, it's still potentially pretty back-breaking work.

Yep. I had to rebuild my town, but we had a lot more aid— and different materials— but that shouldn't matter too much. We still had to make sure everything was sound, and would stay sturdy on a beach.

[They still had the help of Cocoon at the time, and all of the old soldiers... but it was mostly the people who came together to do it. To Serah, this isn't too different.]

They don't have to be too fancy, just enough to keep the elements off and have your own space, if you want it.

[ Despite the girl's tone being relatively even, there's a faint hint of surprise in it now. Like she didn't expect to hear that. It's made even more obvious by the next thing she says. ]

I didn't know you had that much experience.

[ Definitely not 'rebuilding an entire town' experience, that's for sure. ]

Well, if you're really sure you could make something good, you should go for it. I'm pretty sure most people are going crazy after having been stuck in a way too crowded inn for so long. [ Ange herself sure has, given the fact that she's such an introvert. She wasn't made to be around this many people all the time.. ]

It's a lot of work, but it's rewarding, you know? The materials are a lot different, but I think if enough people want to do it, we'll have plenty of places for someone to call home.

[She knows that she doesn't look the type to have helped build up a village, so there's no hard feelings here.]

It's definitely weird going from a high-tech home to nothing. My old home was like that, but my new home is kinda like here... just nothing to grab from the old home. [But...] Hopefully if I get enough interest, we can help people out so it's not cramped. Even if it's just moving things from one house in progress to another, I won't say no to any kind of help.

[ It definitely sounds like a situation Serrah has a lot of experience with. If anything, it almost sounds like too much of a coincidence that she'd have to adjust to a new place that was low on technology like this twice in a row..

Though Ange doesn't bother to question it too much right now. Instead she's contemplating the rest of the girl's words.

I can't claim any skill at carpentry, but I do know how to put up a tent. The climate here is so fine, perhaps people could sleep under the stars and build more permanent lodging at the same time.

Ethlyn! Yeah, I wouldn't mind that, but I don't know how other people would feel about it. But I still wanna help, you know? Make sure people aren't just crowding in to the inn or sleeping in... shady places. [NOEL. >:(] They could make it feel like a home, not just a prison that we're in.

But I'm down for a campout if others are. Pretty sure I could make some campfire food if I had to.

If the people who don't mind volunteer, it'll leave more room for those who insist on a roof. [There's a light teasing to her tone, just a touch of those sissies.] And it will be much safer, as you say.

Campfires and cooking would be nice, now that you mention it.

It's different than my own home now, and it's been a while since I had a proper campout, but I don't see why we can't make it fun too, right? It'll take us a while to get enough homes up, but with enough people...

[TEAMWORK MAKES THE DREAM WORK, etc. So far she's had a lot of bites, and she could probably get the people who already lived here in Aldrip to help out if she asked nicely.]

Well, it wouldn't be really fancy homes, but enough that people could probably make homes the way they want.

As long as it's enough space for people to stretch their arms out without hitting someone else, I'm sure there won't be anything to complain about. And yes, I'm sure everyone will have a lot of fun deciding how to decorate! It seems so easy, with all the different types of paint and decorations you can get without needing skilled craftsmen to do it.

Should you need any tools with which to build, I may be able to create them. But creation magicks do not seem to last here, so it is unwise for me to create any permanent part of the structure.

[Hammers, yes. But as for nails, they should work them from already-existing metal.]
