[The holographic charm "video" that pops on, should you choose to view it, is of a bespectacled scarecrow of a man some of you may have seen around the inn these past few weeks. He's the one who only seems to wear grey ponchos around and has touched everything in the common rooms of the inn that wouldn't hit him for it, while muttering to himself.
That weirdo.
So here he is, his holo-face briefly looking aside to say,] No, no, I've figured it out! Very clear-cut once you get the trick, absolutely.
[But he makes a brief face when he turns back to the charm, like maybe whichever local in the inn he spoke to about working the thing was very sweet and helpful but also kept trying to feed him... religious propaganda? He's not entirely sure. It's a very specific expression.
That's not the point though. Here's the point:]
Hi. I'm Palamedes— Sextus or the Sixth or don't strain yourself too hard, just Palamedes is fine— and I've a number of inquiries for the community at large.
First: Are any of you necromancers? And before someone decides to air their insensitivities out and take up a lot of time, no, not the sort of necromancy that does resurrections. That's ignorant of you to assume.
[That's out of the way.... ahem.]
Second: How many of you actually did the crime you've been accused of? You don't have to tell me what it is! Although, if you do, I'll- [don't say take it to the grave you necro dingus] -keep mum about it. Stolidly. I promise. If you'd prefer to keep it to a simple "yes" or "no," do know that I'm going to write it down for statistical purposes.
And Third!— What do you have with you from your home, and could I touch it? It's for proof of theory. I'll tell you the theory, if you like.
[He says this like he really wants someone to ask him about the theory-!!]
That's all; let me know. I'm at the inn.
That weirdo.

The theory— well, let's establish a baseline, first. My necromantic specialty is psychometry, which in short is working with lingering energy signatures to determine myriad things about a given object; age, recent handlings, and so on. Each living thing has its own energy signature- we call this type of energy "thanergy," specifically, counter to "thalergy," which isn't crucial to understanding right this second- and this thanergy exists around us and collects on objects.
It's the ghost-within-the-thing, essentially. I could touch a beam- [he points up, presumably at the rafters in the inn's dining room] -and give you the age of the building, and so on.
Now, the theory is that this entire city is lying to me on a fundamental level, because my psychometry is a garbled mess, but only on things from here. I've touched the beams; I have no idea how old this building is supposed to be. But my things all read as clearly as before. I'm wondering if that applies to other items brought in from elsewhere, too.
[isn't it!!! EXCITING!!!!!]

Hmm, I see. [Well, that's some ability alright. Impressive one, but also rather intrusive.] What about your own items?
no subject
My things are fine; it would be a monumental affair to fool me about my own energy signature, as you can probably imagine. [can she... nvm] I've been experimenting with the things around the inn, for the most part, so it could very well just be this building— but I doubt it.
no subject
Very well, Palamedes-san. I can assist you with this little test of yours. However, I suggest we gather items outside of the inn as well. I'm sure there are items from the surrounding towns to be found at the market square.
no subject
[He's not offended by that; actually, he's a little endeared? It reminds him of his best friend, whom he has not seen for almost 9 months now, so-- well, he's endeared.]
But yes, perfect— When are you free? I haven't explored the town nearly as thoroughly as I should have by now, so the market is an excellent place to start.
1/2
[In a school with princes, witches, castles hanging upside down from the sky and nobility of the souls manifesting in swords. Totally normal stuff.]
Just a moment. I need to check my schedule with my secretary.
[and she disconnects the charm]
no subject
My secretary says I'm free whenever.
no subject
Your secretary is too kind. I can meet you in front of the inn in about ten minutes.
[And that's where he'll be in ten minutes' time, standing outside the inn, fiddling with a little nubby pencil, nodding to Juri when he sees her. He holds up the pencil and says, by way of explanation(?),]
Recalibrating. Shall we?
no subject
Anyway! Punctual like always, Juri steps outside of the inn's entrance just in time. Seemingly empty handed, though, despite agreeing with his little experiment.]
Good day, Palamedes-san. [Manners first. Her eyes go straight to the pencil.] I assume you also have something to write on, or is obtaining that part of our agenda today?
no subject
[But no, he's good; he pats some part of his gray poncho, presumably containing a notebook in a pocket somewhere under there.]
Actually, I'm all set. Where are we off to first in the market?
no subject
[But content with his response Juri starts walking towards the direction of the market place. She's pretty fast with her steps, so better keep up nerd.]
I'll have to admit that I don't have any specific strategy when it comes to conquering the market. Do you have any experience or words of a wisdom as my elder?
no subject
[A beat.] A different kind of criminal than I've been labeled here, that is.
[And he does not address the porn thing AT ALL, moving on...!!]
And you'll love this one: I've never been to a proper market, either. Grew up in a fat little sealed station on a planet with no atmosphere. We didn't shop.
