[ It's a simple statement, and for a moment it does sound like the message might just cut off there. Just that one flat statement, seemingly devoid of any emotion aside from a vague hint of annoyance.

But then there's a sound that's faintly like a step, then a grumble, and then the message continues anyway. Still mostly deadpan, but a little more annoyed this time. ]

Sure, I get it. The whole crime and punishment theming? Very cute. Maybe start using that talent to build an amusement park or something more productive next time, if this sort of thing is your hobby. Either way, it's really not done to let yourself be heard on the way in, and then just act like you're not there.

[ A slight pause-- and then a sigh. ]

Just tell me someone can point me to the witch. I really don't have time to be beating around the bush.

... Why would I stab you in the back? For one thing, that's not nice, but like, I guess if that isn't enough? There would be nothing to gain FROM stabbing you in the back? You have nothing I want or can do anything I need, Ange-chan.

But if you mean I might get stabbed in the back... [She shrugged.] I mean... the worst thing that could happen DID happen, and trust me, she was very upfront about it all.

And yet you're still like this?

[ Granted, Usagi is presenting two options here. But of course Ange is going to ignore the first one, because she would love to pretend that what she just said wasn't about vulnerability on her end at all. If Usagi is giving her an easier option, then of course Ange is going to focus on that one instead, ignoring the rest. ]

Even though that happened to you?

For all the people who try to hurt me, there are way more people who hold out their hand to help me up again afterward. And I want to be that for other people, too.

Besides, the people who hurt me, that's a them problem, not something wrong with me, ya know?

[ At least Ange would agree there's nothing really wrong with Usagi.

Not that she'll admit to it, considering that might mean having to give up some of her tough front - but she knows it to be true on the inside. If anything, being sweet and caring towards other people is a great trait as long as it's genuine. It reminds her a little bit of Maria.

But she also knows it's way too dangerous to actually be that way outwardly. She wonders how Usagi even made it this far. ]

[ Apparently that's where Ange arrives after thinking about it for a moment.

Nothing about her tone seems malicious though. If anything, there's only something awkward at its edges, like Ange isn't sure how else to word any of this. What else she can even say. ]

So, yes to being friends?

You can't make me give a direct answer like that.

[ There might be a groan in Ange's voice as she says it.

Not that she's going to own up to said groan. Never. S-She's not having complicated feelings right now, nuh-uh! ]
