[Not that she'd tell anyone but Scott, but she'd really been looking forward to Valentine's Day this year. Last year, she'd thought it would like how she'd celebrate it in Japan -- giving Scott chocolates, spending some time together, but nothing super crazy or elaborate. Knowing now how much Scott likes to give her things or create unforgettable experiences, when she'd woken up without him, she'd honestly assumed he was trying to surprise her with something.
Then he hadn't come back. It's not the holiday itself that's important, but it's the intent and expectation that he'd be there for her. She's the one who always said "nothing lasts forever," and yet, for a little while, she'd all but forgotten that. Now that he's here, in front of her, she almost doesn't know what to do.

It's smaller and more tentative, warring against the glimmer of tears threatening to gather in her eyes, but it's there nonetheless.
