My theory was that our actual physical bodies existed elsewhere, held in stasis by whatever machine houses the core of the AI. With direct access to our brains it tricks us into believing we are here roaming about, talking, eating, dying, engaging in carnal embrace and all other manner of sticky, organic things. But 'tis all an illusion. A trick of our sleeping minds.
