I'm afraid a universal translator can not account for intent. You see, regardless of the literal translation, your understanding of a fox seems more akin to a nuisance animal spirit. In my world, the meaning of youko is more commonly equated to the title King of Thieves. The point, or intent, is simply that none of these things matter in a world where the resident's expectations do not align. What we are where we come from, what creatures and spirits exist there, those associations have little meaning in this realm.

[Kurama is no stranger to cruelty, affected or otherwise. He wouldn't consider it likely that Fauna is reading this exchange between them, and there's little reason for him to be precious about the other's opinion, which he's already stated to be unfavorable.]

As such, I can not speak for the experiences of others. That includes her universe and their perception of her, as I am not from there. Regardless, prejudices over her appearance would not change reality.
