that's a tough question! mostly because I'm sure the holiday is less religious in tone than what you're used to. it can be for a lot of families, but it wasn't for mine.
what most people do is both decorate the house and bring in a Christmas tree to decorate, too. presents go under the tree to be opened on Christmas, and if kids are around we tell them that Santa Claus delivered the presents, a rotund guy in a red suit that rides around on a magic sleigh pulled by reindeer. it's also pretty common to visit family and give gifts to them too.
