Well, I'd say that's the problem.

Its words do seem to imply as much. But we don't know if the AI can really think for itself and these are its honest feelings, or if this is just something trying to deceive us. It's even harder to tell if something is lying when you can't even see their face or hear their tone of voice, right?

If text is all we have to go by, then either possibility is just as likely as the other one.
